Beckett has back spasms, misses spring start

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP)—Josh Beckett left Saturday’s spring training game without facing a batter when he was bothered by back spasms as he warmed up.

 

The Boston Red Sox ace, preparing to face the Florida Marlins, seemed to lose his footing on his last pitch and called catcher Jason Varitek to the mound. Beckett put his right hand on the lower middle part of his back and soon was joined by manager Terry Francona and infielders.

Just plain back spasms maybe? Pulled muscle?

 

Hopefully nothing serious, especially this close to the start of the season.

Josh Beckett (lower back) reported that he was "Better today than I was yesterday. I got a good night's sleep." He certainly seemed in better spirits.

Watch Tek will have some minor issue. Wake will be opening day starter, Dougie wil be catching the short 2 game series. Paps will have something so OKi will be CP. I get the feeling alot of the " Stars " will be absent from the trip to Japan. I think the Sox FO is weary of what thir trip could do to the team physically. Look what happend to the Yanks. I mean they normally stop slow, but that yr they started really slow.
