I've been seeing reports that the Twins had a choice and that they chose Lester over Ellsbury as the centerpiece of Boston's offer for Johan.

I understand that Lester's a lefty, but his stats seem to indicate he has some control issues and after an almst full season's worth of games in the majors, he hasn't really done much to give me the impression he will be anything more than a 3rd or 4th guy.

Ellsbury on the other hand looks like Grady Sizemore in the way he plays. I've seen him play only 6 or 7 times, but he looks fantastic. I know the old saying about always pitching, but Ellsbury looks like he could be a perennial all-star while putting up Sizemore-esque numbers for a long time.

Its more common sense than anything. I like Lester as a human being and think he is a great ambassador for cancer and for the game, but the guy is not going to be anything significant (like All Star caliber or CY caliber) on the field itself. Ellsbury has the potential to be a Kenny Lofton style player (in his prime) and that is All Star caliber. IMO, it isnt even close.
