Tampa Bay officially drops "Devil" from name

They will now be known as the Tampa Bay Rays. The link in the article takes you to clips showing the new uniforms and plans for a new stadium. The water front stadium would cost $450 million, seat 35,000, and be similar to Pittsburgh and San Francisco's

I dont understand why so many stadiums are having a capacity decline. If you ask me 30,000 is just too few. I understand they dont draw too well anyway, but a 30,000 capacity stadium doesnt give them much room for improvement.

 

I'm not too big on the new Rays logos or jerseys. I mean, they're ok, but nothing special IMO. Working for the Rays NY-Penn League affiliate will be ifferent this year lol. We'll have that logo all over the ballpark, roving instructors wil be wearing those new jerseys..it'll be wierd lol.

This has been a very long time coming... they've talked about it for at least a year, probably two. They went from having one of the worst visual identities in the league to having... one of the worst visual identities in the League. It looks like the sun in the logo was just an after thought.

Anyone remember a few years back after Toronto's uniform change to what it is now how they were considering dropping "Blue" from theirname? That would have been pretty bad.

I knew they were going to drop the "Devil" because they said when people talked bad about the team they said Devil Rays, and when they said something good (which is not often) they said Rays. But I thought they were going to stick with the fish theme, not this lame rays from the sun. Maybe this is not the most PC thing to say, but that logo looks like it should be the logo of some all gay baseball team.

 

And does this mean they will be taking the fish tank with the Devil Rays swimming in it out of the Trop? That is a highlight of going to most games in St. Pete.

IDK, probably not. They still have a sting-ray patch on their left (i believe, could be right) sleeve. I'm gonna have to look into this more, i'm kinda curiouswhat other changes this may bring throughout the organization.
