Schilling Signs for 1 More Year

Schilling is a borderline Hall of Famer. Winning a third World Championship with the Red Sox and his 4th overall would help his candidacy. He'd have his best shot at a Championship by staying with the Red Sox.

 

I think that you nailed it--this is a hometown discount aimed at the BBWAA six years from now.

 

And, maybe, Red Sox Nation--Schilling has seemed to enjoy his time with Boston.

Picking up Tavarez's $3.85 million option

Resigning Schilling to incentive based contract that starts off at $8 million

 

Really all they need to do now is choose between Arod and Lowell, tweak the bullpen & bench... theyll be all set for another playoff run

Here's the way I see it: It's great to have a guy that wants to stick around Boston, and has a deep respect and love for the fans and the history. Also, we get what is arguably his last year in his career, followed by what COULD be a stint as pitching coach in '09 once Farrell gets his shot at a mangerial job - IMO.

 

That would be so great for the upcoming young arms. What a great thing for the Bosox!
