So much for Rivera's saying that Torre staying would be a big factor in his staying. So be it, I wonder how much he has left anyway.

apparently, there's a snag in the negotiations as Rivera wants a fourth year on the contract offer of 3 years and $45 million

He wants 3/54.

Daily News:

Rivera is said to be seeking a three-year deal worth $54 million, which would make him the highest paid pitcher in the game at $18 million per season.

I also saw that he wants four years. Not sure which report is accurate, but he's clearly asking for much more than he is worth either way.

Part of me gets the feeling that with everything that's happened, he might just not want to come back.

I'm getting to the point where I'm just about to say eff it and start praying that Jorgie doesn't pass his physical, and we table the offers for AFraud and Mo. Then trade Matsui, Pavano, Damon, Kennedy, Cabrera, and Wang for Crawford, BJ Upton, and Kazmir from the Rays. How do we make that trade happen? Take that additional money you were going to spend on Po, Mo and ARod and give it to the Rays to pay off the salaries of the guys we're sending them.

There.

Rotoworld

Free agent Mariano Rivera wants a fourth guaranteed season from the Yankees.

A source told FOXSports.com that Rivera, who turns 38 on Nov. 29, has instructed his agents to shop him, in part because he was angered by Hank Steinbrenner referring to his age in recent comments about the Yankees' three-year, $45 million offer. The team's current proposal would make Rivera the game's highest-paid reliever by a wide margin. It doesn't appear likely that any other team will try to top it. Nov.

I'd like to see the Yanks committed to him at 42 years old to the tune of $18m.

I'm surprised they didn't offer him 4yrs/52mil. I think they have that contract on a rubber stamp.

Ironically enough...

A fourth year? No way. More money? Definitely not.

Is Mo going to have to learn the same lesson A-Rod did? You're not going to get a better deal ,numbers wise, anywhere else. So, cut the BS and sign the deal, it's more than enough for what the Yankees will be getting in return.

Agree with Soxrules in this one.

No lesson to be learned at all, other than that the Yanks front office will say one thing but they ultimately pony up in the end.

This is priceless. The Yanks essentially are outbidding themselves.

Besides, Rivera asked for an extension in Spring Training. The Yankee FO said "Wait til the end of the year."

They gambled, lost, and will now have to pay an exorbitant amount to keep him.

A fact that they're apparently ok with...I guess you get used to it after a while.
