You could easily make the case for him though, really the only stat Beckett has on him is wins.

edit - 1-0 Rays on a Pena SF.

beckett has a better WHIP , ERA, OPPBA and K/9

Just out of curiosity... does anybody have JD Drew's numbers since Varitek came out and supported him?

I'd like to thank and hold Varitek responsible for Drew's surge.

Before the article "Don't boo Drew" (September 11)

.259 AVG 8HR 50RBI

After (Since September 12, Ten Games)

.343 AVG 2HR 8RBI

On NESN they said he was 18 for his last 49 I believe.

Thanks, Kilo.

May be coincidental but you have to believe Tek's boost of confidence has something to do with it. Eh?

No, I just think he's a supremely talented hitter who's probably playing through a shoulder injury.

I'll bet anyone $20 he has shoulder surgery in the offseason.

edit - But it's OK to hate him, he doesn't bitch like Youks does.

And I would agree completely but the timing makes me believe Tek's backing had something to do with this little surge... It's amazing what confidence can do in a game like baseball -- I've been on both ends in my experiences.

Could someone please explain to me why Hinske was out on that dropped 3rd strike?

cause you cant advance at first with less than 2 outs with a runner on first , if there was 2 outs he would have been able to advanced

It was a wild pitch, hinske swung for strike 3, the ball got away, everyone advanced a base, and hinske reached 1st, but was called out. I don't even believe there was a throw to first or any other base. How did that happen?

Didn't the runner on 1st move up to 2nd on the wild pitch? In that case, wouldn't first no longer be occupied when Hinske reached 1st? Or since they were loaded, it only matters that 1st is occupied when he struck out? I'm confused.
