Has Okajima reached the point of hitting the wall? He has looked off/on since the acquisition of Gagne who was supposed to be back pitching around now

Since August 10 (10 appearances) 6.30 ERA

10 innings, 12 Hits, 7 Runs, 4 Walks, 13 Ks

EDIT: f*** Sox lose. The pen gives up 3 runs in the last 2 innings, lack of clutch hits, and one bad inning of Curt combined to give this game up. Theyll look to be back on track tomorrow when Wake goes for his 17th W

drew is so f***ed up now he is going against his most basic instincts as a hitter

you can sense hes off balance and you can sense it thru the television

unreal

bases loaded 1 out 2-2 pitch nearly hits the top of his foot and he Ks looking like a kansas city faggot in the process??

my god he looks lost

i also am bewildered as to why tito had elsbury sacrifice

the man is hitting .600 since he was called back

dont make the kid bunt,i know if youre playing by the book you bunt but we threw that book away a long time ago

let him continue to pound the ball for gods sake

gagne wasnt available yesterday??

it wouldve been a nice spot to redeem himself

bad loss,no need for it at all

In addition to the Drew bashing - these are my thoughts.

Carlos Pena hommered twice yesterday - it would have been nice if he was playing for us yesterday instead of Youk who striked out bases loaded following Drew's noble path.

Wait a minute - he was actually playing for us last year. Why we let him go again Theo?

Youk is nothing but a good defensive late innings replacement - like Monkeybitch was for us at first base when we won the title. RSN will always love tough guys like Youk and Nixon even if it has zero rationality.

Alex Cora should get the worst bench player of the week - if there is any such award.

And Schilling is welcome to go to Tampa - I will pay for his ticket now.

OK - I got it out of my system - back to work.

First off, you're an idiot.

Second off, Carlos Pena barely made the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He got cut then invited back when greg Norton got hurt in Spring Training.

To bash Theo for letting him go when he barely f***ing made the team is hindsight at best.

Youkilis has had a decent year. Oh and we're only paying him close to the league minimum, and he still has an .850 OPS.

Cora and Schilling I won't disagree with you, not based on Schilling's performance (which was OK) but for the fact it'd cost them $15 mil to re-sign him.

I understand that it is hard for you to have a civilized discussion without name calling - so I will ignore that comment.

Did I See Pena have a season like that? No - but that is not my job. It was Theo's job to see it and that's why he get paid in millions. I think it is quite fair to bash him.

I do not think Youk generates enough power and OBP for a first baseman irrespective of cost. Remind me again what he has done after the all star break? Do we not have the second best payroll in baseball and did we not pay Drew Mega millon money? Feel free to have different opinion.

Curt - I am not sure what to do. If he is willing to pitch for $8-$9 million - I will keep him because as crazy as it sounds - he is the best starting pitcher free agent available next year.

Keith Law chat : I guess almost all here would agree to that.

Mike (Newton Centre): Worst hindsight move for the Red Sox? Planting Youkilis at 1B and allowing Carlos Pena to leave via minor league free agency, or Arroyo for Pena for Carter?

Keith Law: (1:10 PM ET ) I think the Drew signing looks like the worst hindsight move at the moment. I don't see Arroyo doing anything like what he's done in the NL if he was still in the AL East.

Theo's job is to make smart baseball decisions, he isn't paid big money to be a f***ing fortune teller. When an AAAA ball team cuts him, every other team passes on him and that AAAA brings him back ONLY because someone got injured, what does that tell you about what EVERYONE in baseball thought about Carlos Pena? Using the fact that he makes big money is such a stupid argument when expecting him to foresee something no one could have possibly foreseen.

I think we are probably heading into a debate that can't be resolved and will be dragged - so this is my last post regarding it. I agree to what you are saying that it needed close to sorcery to predict what Carlos Pena had done this year. All I am saying is that we do give credit to Theo for making the Nomar trade in 2004 that very few would have dared to and pick up Ortiz after the twins had cut him when noone in baseball world could have predicted what he would have become. Then is it not fair to criticise him a little for Cralos Pena? Carlos Pena always had the plate discipline and the power..

Some of the mistakes Theo have made are more visible and were predicted to be a disaster( e.g. Drew contracts) by baseball experts(most in this site) and some were impossible to predict (e.g. C. Pena). It does not mean that those moves do not equally hurt our chances to win another world series.

Right, but the difference between the Nomar deal and the Ortiz signing and granted, the mistakes the FO makes as well, is that there's always logic behind the moves, there's always some kind of reasoning.

If the Tampa FO signed Pena and plugged him in as a starter from the beginning of training camp, then tip of the cap to them. They saw something in him no one else did. But they cut him and brought him back when they had no other choice. They had a horseshoe up their ass as far as that move does.

It's like the girlfriend who joins a football pool, picks the teams who have the prettier logos and wins it over the guys who know their stuff. Blind luck.
