Kevin Cash will catch Julian Tavarez tomorrow and Wake on Monday. I wonder how Wake fares without Belli. And I also find it interesting that in a game when the sox most likely will need a lot of O (with Tavarez pitching), they go to the inferior hitting catcher.

Tek caught 17 innings yesterday, that's a lot for any catcher.

Does Cash have any previous experience catching knuckerballers?

The Globe:

Jason Varitek gets the start tonight after catching 17 innings in yesterday's doubleheader, and Francona said he plans to give his starting catcher tomorrow and Monday off in favor of Kevin Cash, freshly called up from Pawtucket with Doug Mirabelli going on the DL yesterday. Cash caught Wakefield on a couple of side sessions in spring training, and has caught knuckleballers in the minors. We'll see how that goes

35 year old catcher taking on 27 innings in 2 days... just maybe 2 days in a row will be a good thing for him

I remember hearing that he's handled some knuckleballers in the sox minor league system pretty recently, so it shouldn't be a complete disaster.

Cash has been catching Zink (majority of his starts) in AAA this year. Zink is a knuckleballer.

i heard on EEI earlier today that he has caught two different knucklers in the minor leagues. one of whom throws his knuckleball 80 mph

wow, compared to Wake's knucleball, thats like going 95 in a 45
