Just so you all see it, I'm starting the Buchholz gamethread. Kthxbye.

I wasn't even mad at today's loss because the Yanks lost too. We won the series and pushed the lead back up to 5 games. It was successful.

Enjoy the day off and rip Ervin Santana so that Buchholz can get his first MLB win in his first start. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT GAME.

I know we don't like sacrificing outs but I think the smart play is sacrificing Lugo to third.

Total agreement. When one run means you extend the game, and you have a runner on 2nd with no outs, you play for one run. Worry about scoring more than one after you get the one. They had already used up the good part of their pen. Glover, Wheeler, and a long inning for Reyes after a long inning last night, a night we didn't use Jima or Paps. We had a big advantage there that they pissed away.

I know we came close to winning and yada yada but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. There is a serious problem with this offense. The 1-5 guys went 1 for 21, and to add insult to injury we floundered all night vs. a guy with an ERA near 7 and Al Reyes tore through the top of the lineup. Thats just embarrasing, striking out 3 times vs. Al freaking Reyes.

I'd agree in principal, but given that the top of the order is up and he's already in scoring position I can see the logic of taking three cracks..with your top three...at getting a hit.

Bottom line is the studs on this team couldn't get it done when it counted. That's distressing.

Exactly rician, and did you see what pitch Dustin tried to bunt. He had to back to the dugout and get a stepladder to get the bat on that thing. He got lucky it was not a short popup back to the pitcher. No wonder the bunt came off.

If Dustin can't get the bunt down, there's a guy perfectly capable on the bench in Cora. I know people hate taking the better overall player out because we may need him later, but you don't need him in the 10th if you fail in the 9th.

I hear you, but again Lugo is already in scoring position. Your next three guys, your 1, 2 and 3 hitters are hitting .325, .296 and .312 respectively (With RISP it's .265, .318 and .333, respectively).

To hold any one of those three accountable for driving in that baserunner is appropriate...they HAVE to get the job done. As it turns out Ortiz draws a walk and Manny, batting .308 with RISP and two outs, K's miserably.

Just a pitiful performance by those three hitters and I'm not sure having Youk up with a guy on third and 1 out makes that much of a difference versus him up with no outs and a guy on second. Plus Pedrioa is the only guy of the next 4 batters (Pedrioa, Youk, Papi, Manny) who is hitting over .240 thus far in August.

Let's also not forget that DP is one of the hardest guys in the league to strike out....so the odds of him putting it in play are good.
