According to a report in today's San Jose Mercury News, Bonds began seeking civil rights representation three weeks ago after Schilling criticized him in an interview with HBO's Bob Costas.

 

"This is directed at Schilling more than anybody," said criminal defense attorney Michael Rains, who is representing Bonds in a grand jury investigation stemming from the BALCO case.

 

"Schilling said some things that were inappropriate and potentially defamatory. I know it was upsetting to Barry. We talked about the issue and I know he was talking to some civil lawyers to put people on notice that he has someone defending him." ...

 

"While pursuing Hank Aaron's home run record, Barry felt that it was more prudent to remain silent," the release stated. "Now that the record has been broken, Burris and Schneider will evaluate any and all statements attributed to him that are false. His attorneys are particularly concerned about individuals profiting from his accomplishments by attributing statements and/or conversations to him that never occurred."

What's funny is. If he gets on the stand. Shill's Lawyer can ask if he ever did steroids and all kinds of other questions Barry never answers. He can also call Sheff and Greg Anderson. I think the more that Barry looks at this , the more he will realize it's not in his best interest

Just the opposite for me. I'm glad atleast someone in the sport is vocal and can stand up for what they think. Schilling can be a bit agressive towards his statements, yes, but atleast he's doing it and I respect him for that. Other players shouldn't shut up while others juice and get ahead. People need to speak their minds.

And Bonds will say the same thing to Schilling's lawyer that he said to the grand jury. Sheffield has never accused Bonds of anything, so subpoening him will be kinda pointless. Greg Anderson is still refusing to talk in a seperate case, what makes you think he's going to talk about Bonds now?

 

I don't think that Bonds has a case, anyway. Bonds has to prove that Schilling knew that Bonds was clean, and said that he was a juicer anyway. If you turn on ESPN, you have 1,000 talking heads accusing Bonds of similar crimes. He's a public figure, so the burden of proof is going to be a lot higher. (For Bonds)
