Does this mean that the Sox can send him to minors now that he has cleared weavers?

They can DFA him anytime...what this means is that they are free to trade him now until August 31. But unless someone wants to give up a bag of balls, i think he is DFA bound soon to make room for Kelty

he'll get grabbed up

this isnt the place for him despite the plethora of dominican mashers

before he destroys a potential decent career he MUST AGREE TO A MINOR LEAGUE CONTRACT because he needs the work in the field and he needs the reps at the plate.

he wont get the work here

hes still a baby

because hes waived i beleive he can be demoted but this im not sure of

in anycase its over

According to espn.com' date=' the Padres and Pirates showed interest in him before the deadline. I think he'd be an interesting fit for the Padres, seeing as how they lack power.[/quote']

who could we get back from the Padres? cla meredith again?

Here's the deal. He has cleared waivers, meaning he can be traded. If they DFA him, he will likely clear waivers again, BUT, afterwards, he'd have the option of reporting to AAA or choosing FA, and for his own good, he should choose FA and go to a team that he can play regularly for.

He should go to AAA for his own good. I wouldn't mind having him in the organization if he can get regular ABs down in Pawtucket, but at the big league level? No thanks.

100% agree. Get him ABs everyday. He still has a chance.

It would be for some crappy prospect most likely. WMP's value has plummeted. If nobody would be willing to claim him off waivers when he could have been free, you see what most teams think of him.

if they put a claim in they would have to work out a deal with the Red Sox for him, not pick him up for free (assuming the Red Sox wouldn't just flat out give him away).

Wily Mo Pena said Tuesday that he hopes the Red Sox trade him.

Pena has reportedly cleared waivers, which means Boston is free to deal him to any team. "I want to be traded," Pena said. "I want to play. They know I want to play. I'm surprised I wasn't traded before the deadline. They want me to perform, but how can I perform when I have just a couple of at-bats, then they take me out, and I don't play again for days? They said I would be given a chance to play, but it hasn't happened."

WMP.....you have to earn your job bro. You have had a golden opportunity too, so you really cant say you havent. With the way JD Drew played this year.......if you had hit even .250 with power you would probably be the starting RF and all the Dye talk never would have surfaced in the first place.

You sucked, didnt shine in the opportunities to merit more ABs and should shut up and learn how to hit like a big leaguer in AAA.

Pena is gonna go to another team and suck for a season. Then he will rip the cover off the ball and be coveted again. He needs consistent playing time and the sox just wont offer him that. For the better of him and the team, they should part ways.

Didn't he prove himself last year...with consistent playing time?

He was given an opportunity to play this year had he done anything positive at the plate. JD Drew handed him an opportunity to play and WMP continued to suck. The job could have been his if he would have showed any life at the plate.

I dont see how Wily Mo Pena could have supplanted Drew as the starter. Unless some team would actually be willing to take on Drew's gaudy 5 years/$70 million contract

drew is better anyways , crisp and manny are also better . WMP is what he is and thats a 4OF at best on this team so if he cant be affective with the playing time he gets then he needs to be traded

pena had a pop last year as well when coco nixon and manny fell

then he got dinged up(wrist?) and while he hit .300 he was often exposed and at bad times

its maddening but common for these beasts

sam horn hit 15 hrs in a very short stint when he came up initially

ohil plantier was another lefty slugger who would hit 4 fouls over the right field stantion then k on a pitch 3feetoutside and over his head

adam dunn in cinci is killing himself and his team

ya he hits a s*** load of taters but i think he can hit .300 with 35hrs if he shortened his swing

boggs said he could hit 35 religiously if he wanted..he hit 25-28 1 year i think but he always had 200 hits and always won batting titles and had an obp of 400 every year

he hit leadoff and couldnt run for s***

i think they batted him 3rd when he had his best hr year

point is wily needs to become a hitter and not a masher

last nites effort showed me the guy can indeed work pitchers and establish himself some patience and read the pitch selections

he needs this at every ab and not just 1x a month

consistancy makes hitters great

ichiro, when he competes,is the favorite in the hr derby in the allstar game

this is gospel
