This guy has the perfect name to be in the TB bully. Balfour? Classic, and it doesn't end there. His first name is Grant. Grant Balfour. This is a match made in heaven.

BTW, the Tampa announcers are pretty brutal and annoying. All inning they kept complaining about Lugo being called safe. I guess no one gave them the memo that their team is a glorified AAA one, haha.

Another ball up...sheesh. Lester needs to be able to harness his fastball against better opponents or he'll get more results like that. Get this third out, score more the next inning and not sweat this one out.

Been loads of loud outs tonight. However, they are outs against a good hitting team with mostly RHB in the standard lineup.

What he needs to do, and this is why he isn't ready, is be able to get the ball down in the zone. He's pretty good at getting people to chase up a bit, which is not something everyone can do. But, if he could take charge of the lower half, he'll be much more effective.

16 FB outs, 2 taters?

As ORS said, Lester is effectively wild, and with a free swinging team like TB, that works well. But he is just dog tired right now and still not locating well in the zone.

I still think that for most innings and against most hitters he's a better option than Tavarez is. I think you're absolutely right though, about needing to get the command in the bottom half of the zone. I'm sure it is something that he is capable of, as it is simply a mechanical issue. If he has that by the age of 26 then you're looking at a pretty dominant lefty. I can see why the Sox are excited to have him.

I would think his dominance will come when he locates down AND when the curveball comes back. I still havent seen the curve he had when he first came to the bigs last yr.
