Oh hey Tito there you you f***ing slowpoke

He did the right thing. Leave him in there to try to figure it out with a huge lead. He was gone after Hafner no matter what. He didn't sack up, and he hit him on the first pitch. That was one of the ugliest things I've ever seen out of a pitcher who's riding a hot streak.

Kid's made of glass. No stones.

Still a pretty small sample size ORS. patience, my friend.

He's not great, he's not horrible. I think Gabbard is a middle of the road MLB pitcher when all is said and done, which makes him a #5 at best on the Sox and a #3 or #4 at best on a team like the Rangers or Royals.

I don't know about his stones.

well he's trade value just dropped

thanks gabbard ' date=' not only did you screw this game up, your trade value went right to zero[/quote']

No it didn't folks. No GM out there believed that Gabbard was a 2.40 ERA starter who never struggled. He's a 25 year old lefty with stuff to get MLB hitters out.

Like I said, he'd be servicable as a 3rd piece of a deal. Lester and Buchholz could be center pieces of deals.

"Hit WELL!!! to centerfield where Coco's going to make the catch"...

Who knew that the Troupe's brother was the Guardians announcer? :dunno:

Thank you. He's pitched pretty damn well up until this inning. I don't think one bad inning is going to kill his value. Sure, it was ugly, but wasn't he due for a pretty bad outing sooner rather than later?

Nice job Tavarez.

Well, the same GMS would would have given up on him tonight would likely have seen his meltdown inning against the Mariners as well.

Lester isn't even close to Bucholz. Are you the GM of the Royals or something.

No, but Lester is a B+ prospect, which is good enough to trade for impact players.

Anyone else wanna take some swings?

They DO have different values. Both are (if healthy) HIGHLY prized pitching prospects. Buchholz is one of the best sox pitching prospects probably of the past decade, in terms of performance, stuff, and national ranking. Lester was one of the best sox pitching prospects in a few years.

You don't find a whole lot of lefties who can hit 94, who also have good secondary stuff. So far, there is little in Lester's performance to indicate he is LESS of a prospect than he was a few years ago. The speculation is about the cancer and his ability to come back from that. If he continues to pitch well then he will quickly regain that status. Not quite as high as Buchholz (due to Buchholz's K's), but still very high. Remember, Lester is only 23 years old.

B+ seems high, he walkk's a lot and always get's into trouble. More so than not he won't get out of those trouble's. I love him and hope they don't trade either.

I should have waited just 30 more seconds to respond. I wouldn't have had to.

I think that with a solid few starts Lester could be an A- prospect.

Overall, I think he is at LEAST as valuable as Ellsbury; slightly less due to concerns about cancer and his strength. Otherwise a lefty with those skills, his size and athleticism is as good as any non-power hitting prospect. They are the top of the class.

I totally agrre with you. In regards to Gabbard, any player has a high trade value or a low trade value, and I think Gabbard's took a bit of a dive tonight. Lester is good and is only gonna get better, but he's far from being and ace or even a #2 IMO.

It may seem high, but only if you haven't actually paid attention to his minor league career. Let's put this "do people consider Lester to be a good prospect" question to rest:

2006 Baseball America Prospect Handbook Rankings

Jim Callis:

14. Carlos Quentin

15. Justin Verlander

16. Jon Lester

17. Andy Laroche

18. Howie Kendrick

Will Lingo:

29. Philip Hughes

30. Homer Bailey

31. Jon Lester

32. Billy Butler

33. Erick Aybar

John Manuel:

17. Chris Young

18. Nick Markakis

19. Jon Lester

20. Andy Marte

21. Conor Jackson

Allan Simpson:

27. Troy Tulowitzki

28. Neil Walker

29. Jon Lester

30. Anibal Sanchez

31. Bobby Jenks

32. Felix Pie

Even if he's lost value since then due to CANCER (give the guy a break), there is nothing that says he won't get it back. He looked strong the other night. Again, he's 23 years old. Other teams haven't forgotten who he is.

What do you base your opinion on, and which team are you talking about when you say #2? Which pitchers on, say, the Rangers or Royals would you say are unequivocably better than Lester?

If Gabbard's trade value took a hit tonight then you're speaking of the mind of a GM who's thoughts go whichever way the wind blows. Not the quality of a good GM. In fact, not the quality of ANYONE qualified to be GM. There aren't GMs like that, which means that his trade value does NOT go the ways of the winds.

His value wasn't that high or that low. He was of decent value and still is.
