Question, I know that this is Jeters team. BUt if they bring AROD for that kind of money what does it say to Jeter? With the Yankees trying to get younger, will these younger players who were never on the champioship teams, will they look at the Yankees as AROD's team?

This is Jeter's team based on what he did in the late 90's, that was a while ago, its just a thought i'd like to get some feedback from Yankees fans about.

this might've been an issue if A-Rod was gonna end up making more than Jeter after the extension is negotiated but A-Rod already makes more than Jeter so I'd say that's a non-issue. Besides, Clemens came in and makes more than Jeter and I think Giambi also makes more.

30+ million.....jesus christ. Why dont teams stand up for themselves and say....f*** it, were not paying anyone that much....much like they did to players like Andre Dawson in the 80s. When is it going to stop...I dont blame anyone at this point, but the team that opens up their wallet and does pay him......that will open up pandoras box.......how high will ticket prices go? 1000 a seat? 15 bucks for a 8 oz. cup of beer? 10 dollars for a fenway frank?

Somewhere I think this has to stop.

As long as Jeter is in New York, this is Jeter's team. Jeter is the face of the Yankees, and will be as long as he's playing.

High salaries don't lead to increased ticket prices. The greater demand in tickets, the greater the price.

You can put a cap on salaries, but that's only going to benefit the owners of the club. They'll still jack up the price of tickets as long as people continue to turn out in record numbers. Cap or no cap.

Just to throw a thought out there, if they were to not retain A-Rod for next year, they would certainly save a great deal of money. Not next year, but in the next few years after that Santana, Sabathia, and Bedard are all on track to become free agents. If the 2010 Yankees, for instance, have a rotation that includes two of those three (I realize that's asking a lot), Wang, Hughes, and Chamberlain, then it would almost be worth it to let A-Rod go.

Obviously there is not guarantee that any of those guys sign with the Yankees, or that they even become free agents, but it's an interesting possibility.

The Yankees don't want A-Rod to opt out so Texas will still be on the hook for a bunch of his deal. Boras is a prick, but I think A-Rod stays here. Nobody outside of NY will pay $30 million, so the Yankees won't bid against themselves, I hope.

they wont have to bid against themselves. I truly believe them when they say they wont bid if he opts out. It makes no financial sense to allow him to opt out, lose 30+ mil on the deal, then sign him for that amount annually.
