I knew exactly what you were saying the first time and the words "another series" applys to those 3 matchups.

Holy s***. I'll walk you through this. Riverside said this:

11 game homestand against the Blue Jays' date=' Royals, and lowly White Sox... cmon guys make a f***ing statement[/quote']

I said this:

If they so much as lose one of those series' date=' they should be boo'd off the field.[/quote']

You said this:

This team needs a kick in the ass and deserves to be booed off the field if they lose another series?

Do you really not see the difference between what you implied and what I said? Come on man.

I know exactly what you meant...you're the one that got it twisted when I said "another series", I was talking about the 3 series that you listed.

PITCHING. PITCHING. PITCHING. The difference between last year's team and this year's team...end of discussion.

Actually, right now, there's plenty to discuss. Like last year, there are only two pitchers I feel good about on any given night. The three guys rounding out slots 3-5 are hit or miss, right now, that that will continue if Schilling can't come back and pitch effectively. They are an injury away from the wheels falling off and the bullpen getting abused like last year.

Let's compare this years pitching to last years. This years staff has added Dice K, but Schilling has blown a tire to this point. Our 4th and 5th starters right now are Tavarez and Gabbard. Last year at this time the 4th and 5th starters were Lester and a merry go round of s***. Last year's bullpen was Papelbon. This year it is Papelbon and Okajima. Do you really think this improvement makes us World Series contenders? Our record doesn't bear it out.

Oh. You made it sound like I said they can't lose another series all season.

Obviously they'll lose another series...probably quite a few. But I'm not okay with them losing any of those 3 series that were mentioned. Those are gimme wins.

Dice-K, Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield, (Lester, Tavarez, ?) will be a powerful 2nd half rotation and we now have a good bullpen which is something we didn't have last year.

This year's rotation>>>>Last year's rotation.

Ugh. I hate it when people don't bother to explain the basis of their argument. You have no basis here.

The fact that you're unsure of the 5th spot in the rotation kind of kills your argument anyway. Like last year, they're an injury away from a repeat of last year.

If they add Buehrle and a bat, they're in good shape. That's the end of the discussion right there.

What is there to explain?

I edited my post. On top of that...what basis do you have to say that this rotation will be "powerful" in the second half? How do you even know that Schilling is going to come back strong enough to help? Who's the fifth starter?

There are too many questions and issues. It's really not as simple as you'd like to believe. If you really believe what you've been saying, you're in for quite a disappointment.

Just wait and see, my friend...just wait and see.

If Schilling comes back and pitches like Schilling, but last year we were waiting for Wells and Clement to return. Do you see the point? You can't count on old guys coming off the DL with arm problems. Maybe Schilling comes back and pitches lights out, but maybe he doesn't. There's too much riding on that uncertainty. The FO should hedge against that uncertainty by making some moves. After last year's second half debacle, the FO cannot afford not to make some moves. Making the playoffs and going out in the first round will not be a successful season for this team. As far as your statements about the improved bullpen, well... it might be improved, but it is still a two man pen, and that's not good enough.

This is why it's so hard to take what you say seriously. You look into your crystal ball and make your argument.

You guys just overanalyze everything way too much. Josh Beckett has been an ace this season and so has Dice-K. Tim Wakefield has also put up a decent season thusfar and Curt Schilling won't fall off the face of the earth either when he comes back. Plug whoever you want into that 5th spot out of Lester or Tavarez and you have one of the best rotations, if not the best rotation in the league. Okajima in the 8th, Paps in the 9th...pitching, pitching, pitching.

You just over-simplify everything. It's really not that simple. Look...I hope you're right. I really do. But it's not that easy.

If they add Buehrle and a big bat, they'll be fine. Until that happens, they're a pretty flawed team.

BTW, is Manny coming back strong? What about Ortiz? Just so you know, we need them to give us more too.

Why didnt manny just pinch hit for Pena?

Speaking of pena, pitchers now see that pena is somehow suspectible to the pitch middle in. Pitchers have seemed to abandon throwing down and away with 2 strikes

oh god better not dp

What they need to add is a big bat. Buehrle would be nice, but this offense is FLAWED. I'm not sure Manny is going to get back to old form. I am pretty confident that Ortiz will. The rest of the guys are a crapshot.

It is like everyone had their brain washed clean when the Red Sox got demolished at the end of the year last year. The fact that the sox have the same record this season as last is not a shot at THIS YEAR'S Sox; it is a reminder that last year's team was really good through most of July and the difference is the success of the rest of the AL East.

If I were the sox I would look hard at trying to get a guy like Todd Helton and moving Mike Lowell. Helton would be a much better 5 hitter than Youkilis or Drew, and would allow those guys to hit in more natural positions in the order.

Ohhh, that was low by 4 inches. Manny looking for a walk in a situation where we need him to drive in a run... I'm getting pretty used to this pattern.
