if he wasnt approaching the most hallowed record in all of baseball and hold the 2nd most hallowed record in baseball, I'd look at him as I do Giambi. But seeing as he is ready to rewrite history as a cheater, I hate the guy.

Do the East Coasters also hate this prick as much as all of us in the West Coast do?

I hate him, but he has a .512 OBP.

This guy belongs on the Red Sox.

I think you and me were the only two that wanted him here in the offseason.

I can only imagine what the DB guys would have done with that.

Kilo wanted him too. I wasn't that objected to it either. 700 would have liked it also.

I may not like the guy, but I root for the name on the front of the jersey before the name on the back of it.

He's a big time dick that would bring a ton of baggage. Boston wouldn't affect his performance negatively. I wonder how the circus he would bring would affect the rest of the team. Taking the spotlight away from the others might be a help. Who know?

Bonds shows a sign of a heart when he helped the guy back to security.

Sure he could have been an ass and yelled for security and I'm sure he really didn't care about the guy's problems, but he took the time to make that man feel good, so I guess Bonds cares after all.

I actually wouldn't mind that either. He's seemed to have gotten his stuff together.

But if we got him, that would mean getting rid of Lowell wouldn't it?

barry bonds shouldve used arods image consultants or taken a lesson from his Godfather on public relations and speach etiquette as well as a lesson on humility and sportsmanship

he didnt

anyone over 40 remembers his old man

the 1st 30/30 guy if i recall and he did it for many years

he also was a ********** and labeled selfish and played for many teams due to the level of arrogance he infested the clubhouses with,he never won s*** either if memory serves me right....

on the other hand willy mays may have been the most beloved baseball player in history...

of course we'd rather see griffey or say pujols or papi or whoever get the record

barry maybe the most unlikable man in sports since jack tatum, maybe more so....

but barry is getting 756 1st,right wrong or indifferent and i can say with a straight face that hes the best ballplayer ive ever seen in my lifetime, roids or not...

he is what manny of us see as all that is wrong with pro sports and it is very difficult to defend his insolence.

hes a selfish egomaniac fuking jerk and a guy with a chip on his shoulder towards whitey

no doubt he has issues with white america and he relays his feelings thru the media

thats too bad

if he acted like sosa did in 98 he would be bigger than life nationwide

we need a guy like that now in this game.

instead he acts as if we got his family in prison and are torturing him each day he walks out on the field

after 756 he should give it up and find bill buckner in idaho

Why the hell should Barry Bonds care about what people think about him? He loves his fans but he knows he's one of the best players ever to play the game (artificially enhanced or not) and he deserves a chip on his shoulder. He's raking in the millions every single year and also picking up all star appearences and record breaking performances along the way. I don't understand why he should care about his image...

You're right, when you're making millions and millions, who would give a s***? Money got the best of him. Same with Clemens. They don't care what other people think, they don't care what their teammates think, they don't even care if their team wins or not. All they care about is money, money, money.

you men make valid points and the fact is he dont need us

i am of the mindset that when you hang up your spikes and its 5-10 years later and all you have is a s*** load of personal achievments but no ring what do you look back on fondly??

thumper

you're a ted guy??

me too,my people who saw him say he couldve hit 756 if he wasnt busy winning medals in the a/force..

do you think he wouldve done more to shine up his public personna if he couldve done it again??

i do

his last image in a sox uni was him flipping off a not sold out park and disappearing into the dugout forever after he homered..

greatest ever and he couldnt sell out the park or do a curtain call or did the fans even ask for one??

sullen miserable prick according to many but the #s dont lie and thats how hes judged now

everyone wants to be loved

even that jug headed ********** isnt above that and when he hangs em up there will be a shadow of regret in his mind...

the fact is he cant go into any city without getting his balls broken in the worst ways imaginable unless its in frisco where they probably love him for other reasons than his power...not to mention the torment his kids go thru on a daily basis...

i may be wrong but when this guys done i predict lonely hours filled with regret

If you haven't, read the book "Ted Williams" by Leigh Monteville. You'll love Ted more than ever. He was really a good person. In the book, it says Ted just couldn't hold up to the emotion of waving his cap during the last homer of his career. But really, get that book, I've read it 3 times already and it's never gotten boring.

Ted is different from Bonds. Ted played for the love of the game. He said so himself, in the book many times. He once said "The Red Sox were paying me $100,000. The least I could do was hit over .400." That goes to show that he really worked for it. And all this guy ever thought about was hitting, hitting, hittnig. He was just an amazing person with one of the most unique personalities in the history of life.

Bonds on the other hand, doesn't give a s*** about any stats but the home run record, to get his name up there, and a nice plump paycheck. I'd assume Ted's $100,000 a year contract to Bonds would equal to about a good million or so in today's money. That still wouldn't be good enough for Bonds.

And the truth about him, he would have been good without the juice. He was always a power hitter. Granted he may not have been the person he is today, but I deffinitely think his number would be retired and even a possible spot in Cooperstown. And he's getting those anyway, he just didn't earn it. Ted did. That's what makes them two so different.

bonds won 3mvps when he was skinny, here in lies my personal dislike and what pisses me off the most about him

he did what he did later in his career because he was jealous of the attention mac and sosa and s***,luis gonzales hit 58 in az??those guys were loved and adored and wished well and while we suspected,we didnt care till aarons record came into play...

the press porked him in 91? giving terry pendleton and his 13hrs the mvp over bonds

ive never really been a bb fan and hes been out there in frisco so i missed most of his hr hitting bonanzas over the last several years outside sports center

imagine if he played in ny??

hed have 800 by now

imagine if he had legit protection??

pedro feliz and paps molina are a joke

jeff kent matt williams bobby bo and andy van slyke oughtta put a statue of bonds up in their homes due to the pitches they saw with bonds in the lineup..

he had#s like ruth did in the 20s

slugging obp etc....infukin sane

anyways

ted and bb may not be equel in a lot of ways but the baseball side of the story is eerily similar

williams won the triple crown and hit .406 and didnt win the mvp

why??

demeanor and perception sir...

that would make a saint go out looking for vengeance.

williams post season was limited and didnt end well

bonds legacy in october was s*** in pittsburg and i dont really know or remember how he performed personally in frisco,i dont follow em enuff nor did i watch him specifically.

i admire bb for his 5 tool game that lasted 15 years and was a treat to watch

the last couple years hes just embarassing for the game and ultimately to himself..

thanks for the tip

i havent read a full book since i got married 57 years ago but i have some time this summer

I agree. And Bonds has no one to blame but himself. Not his trainer who gave him the steroids, he should have known better than to take it. He really ruined his rep when he got Greg Anderson as his trainer. Anderson was known to have supplied juice to McGwire and the rest of the Balco Buddies. Bonds should have stayed away and he's be a LOT more respected than he is today. But he did it because he saw fame and fortune. What he didn't see, the same thing that happened to McGwire, is the people questioning why such and old player play so well, so late in his career?

Granted, Ted Williams had an exceptional season in 1957, and even again in his last season of 1960. But nowhere near comparison to Bonds. Ted got to where he was naturally, Bonds, and no player for that fact, is just THAT good to be 39 in 2004 and knocking in 101 RBIs and 40 or so home runs. It just doesn't add up. Someone had to pull a red flag. Sadly, no-one spoke, so Bonds and the rest of them walked free. Atleast Jason Giambi had the guts to come foward and apologize. And I respect him for that. I don't respect Bonds one BIT for his actions.

Because DiMaggio was pretty good too... yeah, Williams should have won it hands down. But I don't know how the voters viewed him back then so I have no idea if their like of him went into their decision.

One year he got beat out by Joe Gordon of the Yankees for the MVP. Check out the stats. It was a ridiculous ripoff thanks to vindictive Boston sportswriters. Yeah...the DiMaggio statement was more sarcastic than it came off to be lol, my mistake. It was Williams' award by a long shot.

In the book by Leigh Monteville, it's most likely because of his attitude that didn't get him the award. At the time he was a cocky rookie with a short temper and was always giving the fans something to bicker at in left field. So I'd assume the voters tried to one-up him by not voting for him, even though statistically it should have gone to Williams.
