Not just that. If we can drive Wang out of this game' date=' the Yanks middle relief is VERY hittable. But leave if you must...[/quote']

True. Farnsworth and Proctor aren't s***. I'll stay for the relivers.

that is your GM's fault. Or you could blame it on cancer or injury or whatever.

I guess, but regardless of what spot he's in he's a .500 pitcher. Saying that a .500 pitcher is great on a great team is NOT the same as saying that you can have 5 top tier pitchers. I see no reason this team, with this payroll and front office, can't have 5 GREAT starters. I see no reason to believe this FO will suddenly become sentimental to keep a .500 pitcher who comes with a backup catcher who can't hit and won't be the replacement, in 2 seasons, for Varitek.

Wait Lowell got hit? I go to grab a drink to come back and see Lowell get his left wrist hit? They haven't said much on him yet, I'm watching NESN, what's the story? Is he still in?

we have spent over 100 mil on pitchers per season for the last 3 yrs. I'd venture to guess we have had one great pitcher for 2 seasons and none in 04.

I think Mirabelli has been an above average backup catcher. He doesn't really bring anything special to the table, except for the ability to catch wakefield.

People can think its moronic to not fear the day that Wakefield isn't in the starting 5 anymore. I don't. I think he is an average to slightly above average pitcher who happens to have a lot of history with this team and who is a class act. There are pitchers out there who may be more than slightly above average, and therefore I want them pitching for this team if it helps them win. Apparently its okay to be perfectly happy with a pitcher who wins as many as he loses.

Mirabelli SUCKS.....the guy is one of the weakest hitters and makes a bunch of errors and half a$$ed plays every time he is out there........how about losing a few pounds for starters? That jug headed cheeseburger eater could have worked that middle play a little longer so that at least the baserunner could have gotten to second....but he gave it his usual half a## effort......This will be one "cling on" that I won't mind seeing gone when Wake retires after this season......which he clearly needs to do.........

Have you looked at DiceK's run support' date=' then have you looked at Wake's. Wake has these periods, but more often then not he pitches well, especially since about 2003. Wake was 16-12 in 2005 and was our ace that season. He should have won 20 games that season if it wasn't for pathetic run support. Wake should have been like 7-1 to start the season. instead he was 4-3, because of run support. More often than not I want Wakefield in my rotation.[/quote']

Since 2005 Tim Wakefield has a record of 28-28. True we don't score many runs with Wake in there but having Mirabelli in the lineup doesn't help the offense. You have no choice but to play him.

if you have a .500 pitcher in your 5 hole then you are a really good baseball team.

Last season 2005 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff:

Carpenter 21-5

Marquis 13-14

Mulder 16-8

Suppan 16-10

Morris 14-10

Thats the kind of rotation record I want.....sure you can make a comparison of Wakefield to Marquis....but we also have Tavarez who won't have a winning record as a starter

Wakefield has won 150+ games in his career' date=' he is good in this rotation.[/quote']

Tim Wakefield is going to be 42 at the beginning of the year next year. I would move him to the pen, where he has had success in the past, if only a catcher could catch him.

I don't see anyone coming down unfairly on Wakefield here, I see people disagreeing about the value of a .500 pitcher (which I agree has a lot of value) and the impact that having a pitcher who comes with an additional roster spot.

a) You also have murderer's row redux.

B) I want to beat the piss out of your team. If your team has 4-5 good to decent starters, I want 4-5 GREAT starters.

Very well 2005 Chicago White Sox

Buehrle 16-8

Garcia 14-8

Contreras 15-7

Garland 18-10

Hernandez/McCarthy 12-11

That is a Championship rotation. Again you are right you can get away with a .500 pitcher in the #5 hole....but we have Wakefield and Tavarez

The replay on YES was a terrible angle. You couldn't even really tell. But if I had to guess, I prolly woulda said safe from that replay.

He looked safe, but I don't care, he's out and that's all that matters.

NESN says Mike Lowell has a left hand contusion, I belive it's spelled?
