You do know the point of being on offense in baseball is to not make outs' date=' right? Youkilis and Pedroia make outs less frequently than Lugo. That's why runs are on the table. [/quote']

No...I didn't actually know that. I appreciate you enlightening me.

Pedroia's average is at .300 because he's been ridiculously hot as of late. You may be convinced that he'll continue to produce at a .300 clip at this level...I'm not. I'll bet you $20 that his average is below .285 by season's end. I hope I lose the bet, but I'm confident that I wont. What do you think?

I don't want Youk batting leadoff because he has too much power and doesn't run well. Yea yea...the ITPHR...I could have gotten around the bases on that play too. Youk is a very consistent and patient hitter with some power and without a lot of speed...he's far better suited elsewhere in the lineup.

Then why completely ignore the point? Lugo's career best OBP is .373. His average is .337. Youk does that in his sleep. Pedroia's at .391. Why again do we want our leadoff hitter, in front of our best hitters, making outs with great frequency?

Average is one thing. We're talking about not making outs.

I'll bet you the $20 Pedroia's OBP is above .350 by the end of the year. I don't think Lugo sniffs that at this point.

Why does leadoff hitter = speed? You're not stealing in front of Ortiz and Ramirez anyway. Why then can't you bat Pedroia leadoff and Youks second?

the sox hitters arent patient tonight

Paul Byrd has 3 walks in 50+ innings. If they're "patient", they're down 0-2.
