As of today, here are the stat lines:

ABREU AVG .239 | HR 2 | RBI 22 | OBP .316 | SLG .306 | 6 SB

DREW AVG .237 | HR 2 | RBI 13 | OBP .346 | SLG .333 | 2 SB

The both are absolutely horrible, with Abreu coming in with a 621 OPS and Drew with a 679 OPS.

Both have been bad in the field, Abreu being worse and afraid of the wall, and Drew getting bad reads on the ball. Drew has been marginally better at the plate, with Abreu more of a threat on the paths.

Overall, I have to say the Abreu has been worse. However, considering you guys are on the rope for four more years after this one, and Abreu is gone after this season, I think it shifts back to Drew.

Come to think of it, they both royally suck. Pretty much equally. At least Abreu is gone after this year.

Your thoughts?

Drew has gotten off to a rough start.

Abreu, the second half of last year aside, was on a decline for a couple of years.

I say Abreu because I think Drew's actually hurt.

Drew hurt? What a surprise. Never, ever, in a million years, saw that coming. Okay, so we have two for Abreu, and none for Drew so far.

I don't think Nancy Drew has bad THAT bad in the field...in fact I've seen some pretty nice plays, ones that could've been difficult but were made to look easy. Haven't seen enough of Abreu to make the comparison.

I'll grant you this...Drew at $14m per for another few years is frightening if he continues to perform at this level. In fact even he performs at his career average levels, $14m was too much, IMO. So comparisons aside, I didn't understand the signing then and have seen nothing to prove my concerns were wrong.

But if he's playing hurt it's not doing the team any good.

DL him, Move Coco to right, WMP to center, and call up Murphy.

No matter your lead, I refuse to believe that a team that has Crisp in right, WMP to center, and Manny in left can ever win the AL East title.

The $14 million a year is a joke. He is only worth $14 million if he doesn't get injured and he performs BETTER than his career averages. You pay people for what they have DONE, in Drews case, he shouldn't have gotten more than $10 million a year. Now, if he does WORSE than his career averages, then its a really stupid contract. Yes, if he does turn out to still have a lot of injury problems and he is infact not healthy right now and continues to struggle, Theo was STUPID. I had my worries about Drew, but he's hitting below .240, only 2HR, and 13 RBI. 13RBI, we are getting more production out of our 9 hole than him. I mean, thats bad, thats worse than a black hole.

I take my vote back. I will abstain from this one. This for the rest of you. So we have one for Drew, and one for Abreu. Factor in everything here, including the contract.

And why is that? Drew hasn't been gunning people down with his arm so I don't see why Crisp's noodle arm will be a huge disadvantage.

Crisp in right and Pena in center are better than vice versa.

When Gary f***ing Matthews gets 5/50 JD Drew is worth 5/70.

I agree his production hasn't been good, but looking at the deal now and criticizing Theo for giving him that much for what so far is lackluster production is the perfect example of 20/20 hindsight.

If Drew starts to go on a tear, what will you say then? That's it's worth it?

Yup. I will say the say the same if Abreu gets hot too.

However, I never thought the deal for Drew made fiscal sense for the Sox. I said this with him coming over his good season last year.

At least Abreu punished you guys last year.

That being said, I will pull a John Kerry and flip-flop again. I think Abreu has been the bigger flop, but seeing how you guys are on the rope for four more years after this one, I think Drew sucks more.

Nothing beats Igawa for the worst post-season signing.

We have the richest man to ever play A Ball in history!

GO CASHMAN!

Insanity.

You do not honestly believe that a player who puts up a career .895 OPS, will decline this sharply, this quickly.

just like the venom suit in spiderman (who'd a thunk, a spiderman reference, LOVE that btw), once you put DL Drew on the DL, he may never come off.

reactionary for the most part. Abreu was pretty bad before we got him last yr and he turned it on. He needs to start walking again and then things will fall into place. Give it time. We arent even in June yet. And hey, Jeter was hitting on the interstate in June one season. Bad starts happen. Unfortunately, they are happening to every one of our left handed sticks right now.
