I agree' date=' but it says a lot about this team to win without Lugo, Drew and Ortiz in the lineup.[/quote']They are finding all sorts of ways to win and distance themselves from the Yankees. The last two years they let the Yankees stay too close while they were injured and playig badly.

what an awesome day for the pitching staff. Tavarez gives us a virtuoso performance. Schilling finds a way to last 6 innings without having anything' date=' Okajima pitches 2 perfect innings, Donnelly with a solid outing and Papelbon being Papelbon. nice to get wins when the bats are silent[/quote']

BoSox, a former player on one of my baseball teams got married tonight and while we were waiting around for the ceremony to begin I couldn't get my mind off the game I left tied 2-2. Imagine my surprise an hour later when I used my wife's phone to get the score and I nearly jumped out of my pants when the score read 4-2 in our favor. Imagine, two games and only six hits in each game, and Taverez throws a gem, we get great relief pitching, and somehow we sweep a DH. Not to complain but can we just start hitting a tad better? If we could and keep getting this kind of pitching, wow, we would be very hard to beat.

Good point 700; we have to put as much distance between us and the Yankees as we can possibly manage. So far so good, and today we win two close games, Pena actually walks three times, and Taverez and Hinske are heroes. If only this can continue.....we seem to have a new hero every game.

Hinske's catch was the #1 web gem on SportsCenter. It's amazing that the ball stayed in his glove. He never had it in the webbing of the glove. You can see the ball for the entire catch. It's amazing that it stuck in his glove on the dive and even more amazing that it didn't pop out when he made the high impact face-plant. If he misses the ball on that dive, that ball rattles around the corner and goes for an inside the park homer, because Hinske was in no condition to run after it. With regard to the pure shock value, this catch is reminiscent to me of Swoboda's catch in the '69 World Series. He was also a lummox in the OF, but far better than Hinske. He was not known for his great catches, but he made a completely improbable catch on a reckless full out dive.

Hey guys, we all should be feeling great right now, no doubt about that. Nine-and-a-half-games ahead of the Yankees? Who would have thought we would be in that position on May 18th? My missives were not that of a complaint but just a thought of how this team can do from here on in if we can just keep getting the pitching we've been getting, seeing one surprise player emerging game after game, and, especially, get Manny going on offense. We've given ourselves some breathing room just in case of a slump, but I would hope we all just keep thinking that we must continue to put as much distance between us and the rest of the AL East as we can. I'm pretty sure the players are thinking that way.
