im really surprised at how many people are actually giving the division to the Sox already considering the things that have happened in the past. there are many many peaks and valleys to come

agreed, whats amusing to me though is that if the Jays can find a late inning solution, they are scarier than the yankees. look at how well burnett is pitching lately. get roy halladay back and reed johnson and they might actually do stuff. bet they wish they didn't let speier go though.

That's very good news Bo. It would be even greater news if he goes out there and pitches a great seven innings for us and we give him six or seven runs.

Give us 7 innings Beckett. Okajima or Donnelly for the 8th, and Papelbon mops up in the 9th. Thus Beckett get's his 8th consecutive win.

We got Schilling tomorrow, Beckett Tuesday, and Dice K on Wednesday. I'm pretty confident with a good pitching lineup we could be looking at another sweep.

I can't wait to see Trot again. It's going to be weird seeing him in an Indian uniform. Can we just trade him for JD and forget that he ever left? Please?

I'll be at the games Tues and Wed. Can't wait to see Beckett pitch again and my first Dice-K game.

I'll drink to that Thumper, but I'm just concerning myself with Schilling and today. One game at a time remember?

If Schilling bombs tonight, I´m gonna start a `who the Hell do we get to replace his fat ass`thread...

You know what I'm not looking forward to; Wake, Tavarez, and Schil facing the Yankees 1-2-3 for the second time. I really wish we had our pitching laid out better for the series. O well. Lets sweep the Guardians and put the Yankees farther behind.

Alright, almost there. Schilling did enough for us to keep the win. One down two to go. I do agree with TW101 however, would have rathered Schill, Beckett, and Dicey to face the Skanks. Even IF we get swept by the Yankees, we'll still be a good few games ahead of them, which can easily be made up. And if we sweep the Guardians and go down against the Skanks on all three, then we're right back at 12 and a half games ahead so we break even.

f*** it let's just win tomorrow.

BoNat, I think you can hold off that thread for the time being. Curt Schilling looked like the real Schill tonight and a game we needed to get the homestand off to a successful start, and he didn't pick a stiff to do it on. The Cleveland Guardians was just coming off a sweep of the Tigers in Detroit and leading the AL Central so we know they can play ball----and they also have a potent lineup. Considering Papi was not in the lineup we did fine, getting 10 hits and two dongs. Romero once again showed why I have little confidence in the guy but aside from that there wasn't much to complain about tonight.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Let's not talk that BS about losing three to the Yankees. It ought not to happen the way the two teams are playing. Your last sentence should suffice, though. JUST WIN TOMORROW.. One game at a time. It's been working for us well enough up to now. Why change the format?????

I'm not saying it will happen. I'm saying IF. And that's a very big IF. There'd be a better chance of Roger Clemens actually pitching good again than us getting swept by the Skanks. But IF it were to happen, we'd still be well ahead.

It's the same situation as last week.

If the Sox win 1/3 this weekend they're fine. Anything more is gravy.

If we sweep, they're officially done. I hate to say it, but there's just no way they could come back from that. If they did, I would eat my own s***.

I wish people would stop giving me reasons to cheer against the Sox... ;)

Yeah, a sweep pretty much clinches it, no matter what happens today. FYI, here's a breakdown of the Sox projected record by winning percentage from here on out. First column is the W% range, second is what the Sox final record would be with that percentage from here until October, third is the NY W% (assuming one game better than the Sox record) needed to overtake the Sox, and the last is what that W% would be like over a 162 game season.
Sox W%|Record|NY W%|162

.700|114-48|.837|136-26

.675|111-51|.812|132-30

.650|108-54|.787|128-43

.625|105-57|.762|123-39

.600|103-59|.738|119-43

.575|100-62|.713|115-47

.550|97-65|.688|111-51

.525|94-68|.663|107-55

.500|92-70|.638|103-59
Basically, if the Sox play to a .575 or higher, the Yankees have to play like the best team ever for 112 games. If it's from .500 to .575, then the Yankees have to play like a 100+ win team for that stretch. I thought they'd be a high 90 win team with that offense, but not over 100.

Yeah, a sweep and the East is out of reach.

116 win Mariners here we come.

I actually think we're going to come in last in the division. (I had to balance out the insane optimism with insane pessimism).

What do you say that we go for the gravy Kilo? They took us two of three in their house and we ought to return the favor. Again, all the distance we can separate ourselves from the Yankees will make it that much tougher for them to recover when the summer hits. I want all the cushion we can get because if our pitching does its job and we stay healthy it could be our year. I'm not elated with the fact that Tim Wakefield has to open the series for us because the Yankees seem to have gotten his number, but possibly he will pitch one of his better games and will get the support needed to win. As for Julian, he has already taken the Yankees twice. Give him five or six runs and we have a chance there as well. If Curt can pitch the way he pitched Monday we have a good chance in that game as well.

No, I do not think we will win all three games, but I think we ought to win two of them. You know what is of my overiding interest above all that, though? TONIGHT'S GAME!!!!! One game at a time. WIN TONIGHT AND WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW TOMORROW!!!

Going both ways with the wild optimism and back down to earth with a disaster scenario saved your scalp from my wrath and my completely going bonkers with such a out in space projection of 116 wins. All that talk scares the hell out of me. One game at a time, one game at a time, one game at a time. We are doing very well but you know what concerns me???? Where are the patsies in our league???? I mean, it's one tough team after another.....Detroit, Cleveland, New York, Minnesota, Anaheim, Oakland, Chicago. Yes, I suppose you could say Texas, KC and maybe one other team, but KC knocked us on our asses last August, the Rangers are sure as hell better than some of the stiffs in the NL, and I don't think TB is any pushover anymore. Every game seems a battle; thank goodness we have the pitching this year.:D :D :D :D :D

We won't end up with 116 wins, there's no way they can keep this pace up. 100 wins sounds reasonable though.

But what if we do keep up this pace ? Can we say this might be the deepest team pitching and hitting wise we have ever had ? Our bullpen is awesome ,starting pitching lights out ,offense looking great even with JD hitting like crap . Also Youk is really turning into one hellva player .

The reason 1/3 is important is because they only pick up one game when three go off the schedule.

They should take 2/3. The Yanks have their pitching lined up again though, the only difference being Beckett is in place of Tavarez. I like that Schilling is facing the corpse of Mike Mussina.
