Pena's bat obliterates... WTF are you watching. Pena is horrible. If pitchers keep throwing him offspeed pitches, which they will, WMP will continue his horrid start. Where the production there? Coco has already shown that he can be good offensively. He has great speed and is great on the basepaths and can bunt for a hit. If you look at his 2 years prior to Boston, which I think was him coming into his own, he was awesome. Then he came to Boston, broke his finger, and played injured that contributed to his off-year. If you notice, he has been swinging the bat well in the last week or so.

I think the front office is planning on Youk switching back to third and finding a 1st baseman from either Pena, the free agent market or maybe even holding out for Lars Anderson. If pena could pay enough attention to play first, that would be terrific.

Id really look for him to learn to play 1B' date=' with Ellsbury coming up he doesnt really fit anywhere and hes not good enough to play the corner OF spots for a whole season (no room anyway). With Lowells impending FA, maybe working with WMP to play 1B would be the best solution.[/quote']

I had hoped they would just start the process during spring training. He has the power to add that corner IF power the sox seem to lack.

You know, I could tell you that you misunderstood what I said, and go cut your argument to pieces, but you're going to keep believing what you want to believe, so there really is no point. I mean, we've been through some of those points, yet you restated them.

I fully expect this to be posted within two seconds of the next strikeout of Wily Mo Pena.

You sir, are a moron.

He has been bunting well. His triple was a chopper with the 1B well off the bag.

You DID notice that WMP hit the game winning grand salami last night, right?

I'm sorry, if you think breaking a finger is supposed to have that effect on production compared to the year before, you are insane. Do you like have his autograph and worship him or somethin? Did he go to your high school? What is it? Wily Mo can hit the ball further than anyone on the team. If he can cut down his strikeout rate he would be hands down, head and shoulders above Coco. Coco is a decent player with some speed.

Power hitter that hits .275>slap hitter that hits .275

As coco drives in a run.

My thing is that I like both of them. A player who has better numbers in some areas than another player isn't objectively a better player. Guys have different roles and different talents which are unique. That's the great thing about this game.

You're bringing all the smilies with you huh kyahbean? You're clearly purple with excitement.

No matter how much you hate the strikeouts, and even with the horrid start.....

RC/G: WMP - 3.5, Crisp - 2.7

On a good team they are both useful. This is a good team. Ergo, they are both useful.

I don't know why this is an either-or type argument. The fact that WMP is better--if this conversation is based at all around Ellsbury's impending Soxness--is a likely reason for him to NOT play for the Sox an dto get traded. He's more valuable as a trading piece.

Likewise, I think Coco is more valuable as a 4th OF and legs off the bench.

Mariano's control isn't there. You almost feel bad for the guy watching this happen to his career......almost!

EDIT: I can't remember the last time he paid so much attention to the guy on 1st, especially when someone like Pedroia is at the plate!

A season or two ago' date=' who would have thought the Sox fans here would be jumping with joy when Rivera comes in?[/quote']

Youk of the Nation, that's who!!

Exactly. I agree. I am just saying that Coco is not clearly better than Wily Mo. They both have their situations. Wily Mo is not quite ready to be an everyday player because his strikeouts are terrible, but mixed playing time is good for him and Coco is not a vital part of the team to have out there every night. It actually works out rather well.

Hmm. Coco is now 10 for 25 in his last 6 games with 3 stolen bases.

How many game winning grand slams does he have?

They both contribute. Get over it.

NICE!!! The Sox knock out Mariano in a NON save situation.

Perhaps he'll come over and pitch some simulated games/batting practice next spring training, just so we can get our new guys a few more good looks at him.

THIS IS WEIRD TO WATCH.
