There's a pretty good article attempting to disprove the 'curse'. I think it does a very good job. I think if there was a 'curse', there'd be some sort of consistency to it -- there isn't any consistency with the Madden Curse. It's just people picking and choosing negative occurrences that happen after the cover and dismissing the positive -- the argument for Eddie George is just absolutely nuts.

But the best year of his career the year he was on the cover.

People are just picking and choosing bad things that happen. Why would said curse basically end Marshall Faulk's career in terms of his performance, but Culpepper bounces back to have one of the greatest seasons ever?

Another thing with the injury portion is that if you look at the four players that have had injuries that cost them to miss a large portion of games, three of them are mobile QB's and it's far from being the only time they've been hurt. Culpepper had his injury the last two seasons with one of the best years ever by a QB sprinkled in between that and his "Madden curse" injury. Some curse. McNabb's injury was the second major injury he's suffered in his career, and he's suffered another since, so that year was hardly an anomaly. And Vick is lucky he hasn't been seriously injured more often. And the other player, Shaun Alexander, is a freakin' RB... average career length for an NFL RB? Less than 3 years.

NFL MVP Tomlinson turns down Madden '08 cover?

LaDainian Tomlinson's business manager confirmed yesterday that the Chargers running back turned down the opportunity to grace the cover of the John Madden '08 video game, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

LaMar Andrews said EA Sports, which makes the popular Madden series game, wanted Tomlinson on the cover. An EA Sports spokesman had said Tuesday that Vince Young was the company's choice all along.

The Madden cover athlete is generally paid $100,000 to $200,000 and is required to make numerous promotional appearances.

Tomlinson's status (and compensation) as an endorser continues to rise. He was the NFL MVP and set the league scoring record in 2006, and he is to be featured in numerous national ad campaigns this year.
