why'd they use Chamberlain and Rivera with 7-1 and 8-1 leads' date=' respectively?[/quote']

Most of the bullpen was used in the second game so they wanted to pitch guys that hadn't pitched that day. In Chamberlain's case they wanted to keep him fresh and he had only thrown two innings since last Monday before yesterday's game. On top of that, using him there doesn't prevent you from using him in any other games because, as Optimist said, they have off today.

In Rivera's case, it's all about getting him back in a routine after he struggled so much last week.

Is it just me, or did Thames pretty clearly have the ball on the bag? I guess you need to have both feet on the bag while doing a plie against the Yankees.

Looked like he did, but why the f*** didn't Polanco run right at Damon? Easy out there.

Tigers playing awfully sloppy baseball, I'd be happy if they took one in this series.

Must win? With the Maha-Raja on the bump? What causes the exit? The hammy? Blister? Jawing with the ump? We shall see.

The Maha-Raja is nowhere near the mitt. He better hope for effective wildness against the hackers like Rodriguez, and good fortune on where the ball ends up on the field.

One of these days, oh I don't know, maybe after his 600th career HR, people will learn that belt-high away is one of the places ARod really likes the ball.

This is tough to watch, Clemens is really struggling. That being said, Cano has got to field that ball cleanly, and if he does, the score is still 4-3.

Well, the Yankees are still battling here. And, fortunately, Clemens managed to get through the heart of the order last inning. If the Yankees can scratch across a run in the next two innings and Clemens holds them in the sixth, Joe would probably go to Joba for two and then Mo in the ninth.

EDIT: I should have realized this but considering it's 1:15 AM on the East Coast and the Red Sox are not involved, I'm talking to myself here. I have to be at work at 10 AM tomorrow, but I'm going to try and get through this whole thing.

That is true.

Ugh, 1-2-3 for the Yanks. Clemens is really hanging by a thread here. Luckily he gets to face the bottom of the order, but if anyone reaches Granderson comes up, and he is 3-3 with two triples and a double.

EDIT: It's Edwar for the seventh.

Nice. You're not still out West are you?

Nope, I moved out to Florida here at the beginning of the month -- and since I still don't really know anyone out here I don't have anything else to do on a Friday night, I'm watching the game.

Haha, yeah, I gotcha.

Wow, I don't know if you saw that, but the strike call on the 1-0 pitch was ridiculous, but the call on the next pitch was absolutely awful.

OK, well, they didn't take that lead, but Torre did exactly as I thought he would do. Joba is going to have to get some tough hitters out here.

EDIT: Joba is probably going to two innings here. If they don't win this is going to be a really bad game because you're essentially wasting him, considering this will make him unavailable until Monday.
