Just thought Id share a little info with the AAA team we have down here.

The Zephyrs have been in New Orleans (Metairie), Louisiana since 1993. Last season they were affiliated with the Washington Nationals and are now with the New York Mets and are a member of the Pacific Coast League.

The name of the field is Zephyr Stadium, and strangely our mascot is a nutria named Boudreaux.

For being a AAA team, the Zephyrs have a very nice field, you can see it here.

Currently, the only title they have is the 1998 Leauge Title. But that doesn't stop fans from coming. Depending on the weather as many as 1,200-1,500 people are in attendance, which for AAA I'd assume is well.

Opening Day for the Zephyrs is this Friday when they play against the Nashville Sounds. I plan to go and will be taking pictures for everyone here to see just what a great place Zephyr Field is.

Also, it will be the 10 year anniversary of Zephyr Field. I was there when it was first opened when the Zephyrs played their first game there on April 11, 1997. It also served as a staging area for FEMA and the Nationa Guard during Hurricane Katrina.

Now on to the players. Naturally most are people you've never heard of, or probably ever will hear of. But none the less, baseball is baseball.

The Zephyr's also used to be the Denver Zephyrs, and before that, the Denver Bears and a number of other names and locations before that. They were forced out of Denver by the expansion Colorado Rockies. I saw a Zephyr's game at Mile High, their previous stadium, my first year, and their last, year in Colorado. I was young and the only thing about the game that I remember is that I cheered against them because the other team was red and I liked the color red more than green. I remember reading somewhere that they played in front of crowds as big as 45,000 people on Fourth of July games. Their current stadium looks like a great place to view a baseball game.

Oh it is indeed. When I go Friday I'll take some pics outside and inside the stadium.

I really don't think the stadium looks that terrific to me. The Diamond in Richmond is bigger, old as crap, but there are bigger places, places that get more attendance and that pic makes it look similar to the Single-A stadium I visited last summer in State College, PA.
