Today there is an article on Helton being bandied about again. Word is the Rockies are dying to get Helton's contract off the books so they can deal for Pavano believe it or not.

 

But getting Pavano would be another mistake in a long line of Rockies pitching miscues. Pavano is a 2 seamer/sinker kind of guy and with that thin air, balls dont sink as much. He will set a record for HRs given up. Not to mention, he might develop more injuries at higher elevation. But take him, I beg of you.

No he didn't mean Pavano for Helton. If the Rox can dump his salay it makes salary room for Pavano. Helton I don't think is going to be going anywhere, he already said he would veto any trade after the hole Boston rumor thing was over.

 

The Rox want way too much for Helton if there just trying to dump salary, I mean they wanted like 2 or 3 top prospects from us plus for us to eat 60M of his salary. They will have to butter up to Helton and take less prospect wise if they want to be rid of that albatross contract.

just read that, is it me or are the Rockeis willing to give up some of their young hitting for Pavano? Anyway, I think this Helton thing might come up mid-season if needed, say Drew goes down, or something, and we need offense. Also I think it depends on what the Sox see in Hansen or DelCarmen as the season progresses.

the rockies would probably love to give up hitting for any pitcher. Thing is, right now Pavano would be a salary dump. By May, Pavano may actually be a useful commodity or he could be on the trash heap again.

Absolutely untrue. The sink of a sinker is not due to tumbling overspin, like a curve, it's due to less backspin than a 4-seamer, which means greater gravitational impact. Jennings is sinkerball pitcher, and he's been good in Colorado. I've always thought they need to focus on getting more GB pitchers because flyballs are the death of pitchers there.

I am only going off what was said about Hampton. Hampton had a nice sinking fastball that stayed flat in Colorado. That and his curve was flattened too. But I see your point.

Hampton's best pitch was the big curve. It's true, curve balls don't hook as well in drier, lighter air. I think the best reportoire for Colorado is 4-seam, 2-seam/sink, change.

Kim is in the rotation, and no, Pavano wouldn't be their 1.

I believe it goes Francis, Cook, Hirsh, Kim, Fogg. Pavano would probably fit between Kim and Fogg.

How is it a stupid thread? It's a thread for anyone who has read any new rumors or heard any. It's pretty self explanitory.
