Sounds like he's pretty upbeat and wants to pitch in 07. Not saying he will be anything of any consequence, but if he can get into a few games before the trade deadline and look decent we might be able to ship him to the pitching deprived Cardinals or Mets. One or both of them will most likely be looking for pitching. If worse comes to worse maybe he will just give our guys a day off here and there in the late part of the season.

Wow, this is good news...i thought there was no chance for 07. He's always seemed to have a good attitude. I know clement has been killed here (and i have been part of that) but i wish him the best and it woudl be great if he could come back and help us this year.....you can never have enough pitching!

I will be sick If Matt Clement has to start a game for the Boston Red Sox in 2007 or ever again. This guy shrinks under pressure and has never pitched well in the second half. If we can get anything at all for this guy, we have to do it. Although I highly doubt that we can get anything more than a bag of balls for this guy.

he's never been the same since getting drilled in the head but if he can get a couple of good outings, he might be useful for us or at least another team cause these days, his salary doesn't look so bad
Posted
all im saying is its the perfect climate for the Sox to dump Clement on some other team cause I think this past off-season's contracts prove how desperate teams are for pitching
Posted
you wont be able to move him until he hits a mound.

ummmm that was what we were saying Jackson....... It be nice to get a couple good outings out of him then ship him some where at the trade deadline to a desperate team.

Basically what you guys will most likely do with Pavano if Hughes steps up and shows he's ready now.

Posted
Right, but Pavano is on the mound right now and can help a team right now. Clement isnt expected to be MLB ready until August, putting him past the trade deadline. And since he is on a one yr deal this yr, dealing for him does nothing for next yr.
Posted
All things aside, its great to see Clement get back out there and throwing. One thing that hasn't been questioned was his heart and the love of the game.......Good to see him getting back!
Posted
He may have heart' date=' too bad he doesn't have the guts to keep his head on straight anymore.[/quote']

Clement was injured, it had nothing to do with keeping his head on straight.

he wasnt injured against the CWS in 05 when he got ripped on national TV to open the ALDS.
There was a lot of damage to the shoulder. Doctor's are not sure how long he's had the damage. It's very possible that he was pitching injured in 2005.

Someone else pointed this out awhile back, in most of his starts he was very affective the first time threw the lineup... Maybe he will make a decent relief pitcher....

Could be... I mean I won't go and say this is why he has stunk but it could be one of the problems. I don't think we will ever get anything out of him, because I don't see us giving him a one yr deal next yr or anything, but he might beable to make a difference for someone in the NL.

I do remember the last year he pitched for the Cubs his stuff just seemed to fade. His shoulder damage probably started with the Cubs. The Cubs seem to teach the wrong mechanics :dunno:

So if a pitcher has a bad game during a big moment then their head is messed up? Roger Clemens would be in a mental hospital then :D

I really don't think Clement is a lost cause. Even a so called first half pitcher could be useful, perhaps only pitching in the SECOND half of the season. If Clement comes out and can play Bronson Arroyo (long relief/spot starts) in the second half then I could see this team being in a good place.

If he sucks or never comes back then oh well, he can join the rest of us as a fan.

How do you know? He was pitching as good then as he was last year, and when they opened his shoulder up last year they discovered serious damage. Quit asserting things you can't possibly know.

you'll make excuses for anyone wont you?

What excuse did I make? I just pointed out that you can't know what you claim to know. First, not even the doctors that looked at him can determine how long the condition existed. Second, you aren't a doctor, no matter how much you try and play one on the internet.

How is it any different than what you do?

You get boners over every marginal prospect the Yankees pick up.

You use conjecture rather than back up your arguments with numbers.

Clement to Cardinals

Email|Link By Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff January 3, 2008 05:43 PM

The Matt Clement era is officially over in Boston.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced they have signed the former Red Sox righthanded pitcher to a one-year contract for 2008 with a club option for 2009.

"Matt is a very talented pitcher who has been beset by injury the last few years," said Cardinals vice president/GM John Mozeliak. "Based on our findings from his rehabilitation last season and his recent physical, we feel that he can be a solid addition to our starting rotation and should have no limitations upon reporting to spring training."

Clement, 33, has a career 87-86 record with a 4.47 ERA while pitching nine-plus seasons in the majors with the Padres, Marlins, Cubs, and Red Sox. Shoulder problems limited Clement to just 12 starts for the Red Sox in 2006. Clement was named to the American League All-Star team in 2005 when he jumped out to a 6-0 record with a 3.06 ERA in his first 11 starts and was 10-2 with a 3.85 ERA at the halfway point of the season.

The 6-3, 210-pound pitcher missed the entire 2007 season while rehabbing from arthroscopic right shoulder surgery performed Sept. 26, 2006. He has not appeared in a major league contest since June 14, 2006, when he prematurely left his start in Minnesota with shoulder discomfort. He did pitch in two simulated games at Fenway Park in September last season as part of his rehab.

Material from the St. Louis Cardinals media relations department was used in this report.

no more excuses for Matty? But, but, but, he wasnt healthy!! He got beaned on the head!!! He's a two bit whiny Pavano imitater!!! Pavano and Clement are made for each other. We should deal Pavano to StL so they can feed off of their uselessness.
