Believe me jackson Sox fans were starting to pull their hair out like Tito did when he was the Phillies manager... So Coco Crisp is out, well enter the young slugger Wily Mo Pena... no actually on second thought Francona will give Dustan Mohr, Adam Stern & Willie Harris the majority of ABs in center field for the next month :what:

Spring training is usually where Theo tries to burn off a last minute trade. There was early speculation that Seattle was talking with Boston but it looks like they already have themselves a good bench.

Thing is' date=' this might be more of a question for scaff, but how many s***** hitting lightning fast SB guys are there in the sox minors? I know the yankees have a ton of them. Grab the oldest of the bunch and slide him onto the bench. That could be worth a run or two per WEEK. Think about it, Ortiz is walked with 1 out in the 9th of a tie game. Manny comes up with a runner on 1st. If Ortiz is on 1st, Manny would need to seed the RCF gap or hit a tater to bring him home. [b']You put a speedster on 1st and about 85% of the time he will steal that base[/b]. Then, a single or an error gets the runner home. Late inning matchups is something the yankees had on both sides of the coin during their championship runs. Speed kills late in a game as does lefty righty pitching matchups. I have no idea why teams dont build that in.

I believe at that point, they walk Manny ( you just took the bat out of his hands ). I agree in principal, however I just think that's a poor example.

Yea I agree completley...but then again, you wouldn't neccessarily have to steal in that situation. Manny is such a good hitter that you could put on the H&R rather than a straight steal and know that 9 times out of 10 Manny isn't going to hang the runner out to dry. That way, if Manny singles that runner formerly on 1st is now on 3rd and all JD Drew has to do is fly out to win the game. I guess they could still walk Manny, but we've gotta be hopeful that Drew will be able to do something with the bat and make pitchers have to think twice about walking a guy into scoring position with him coming up. Jackso is right, though...I've always been a big fan of speed on baseball teams. In addition to scoring more runs, I think it makes watching games a helluva lot more exciting.

DiNardo is garbage, but they aren't trading him for anything, so he will start on the 25 man roster because they save an option by starting him in the majors this season.

I'm pretty sure that of all the semi-obscure players you could have picked DiNardo won't be on the team next year. He was claimed off waivers by the A's yesterday.
