Both are trying to protect themselves. This might get ugly.

I bet it gets done before Saturday. Both sides have said its just about contract language all along, so I don't know why people think its going to get "ugly"

I'd be surprised if it took another week.

well how long has it taken so far? at this rate i am having serious doubts anything gets done and have no optimism for any type of time frame nvm for it to be done in a week. mostly just because i have heard no hints of them being close, all news ive heard has been the same since the physical

That could be the smartest thing you have posted since I've been coming here.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

yeah there is a snag in the deal.

Drew/Boras are annoyed at the Sox being unwilling to install a Tampax dispenser in the men's room for when Drew gets his period.

rician, the Red Sox just signed some guy from Japan who used to play in the Majors back in 2003, You or anyone know about this Ochoa guy? I remember he was supposed to be a great prospect but flamed out badly. Why in hell would we want to sign another stiff like this? The only reasons I can think of is to stock the Pawtucket team so Epstein can avoid the waiver wire later in the season if something goes wrong. Of course, if this guy is as bad as he was when he played in the Bigs that ought not to be an improvement. The way this Drew thing is not going it could be we will have this guy, Murphy, Pena, HInske and half the outfielders in the system vieing for RF.

he was with the mets and was a damn good prospect. He never developed the power he was supposed to. He bounced around for a few yrs and was actually a very serviceable 4th OFer, then he went to Japan. On any other ballclub, he'd be a lock as the 4th OFer, but when you have Hinske and WiMP under contract, you arent guaranteed anything.

he used to be the sushi chef at wonakura over on the west side

he got mad at billy for chewing and screwing and after that messy lawsuit over the cleaver incident and the subsequent animal cruelty charges he got deported to norway but he claims he wasnt from there

actually this guy is a dominican i think and had some health issues that maybe roid related

he was with the mets i think before he disappeared

I love this tidbit from Rotoworld:

Ochoa is a .279/.344/.422 hitter in 2,107 at-bats as a major leaguer, but since he's clearly on the decline now, he's a fifth outfielder at best. The Red Sox shouldn't have need of him.

I have no idea why they're remotely interested in this guy, unless they think he can play in AAA, be decent, and be part of a future deal...but why the hell would they want to tie up a AAA spot for a 34 yr old has-been...or more accurately..."never-was"?

Until I was reminded of it I had forgotten that this guy played for the Mets. I guess four years is a lifetime in more than politics. I also keep hearing about our top notch farm system, yet we keep signing guys year in and year out to fill our Pawtucket roster. We did this last year as I remember with another Mets reject. What the hell happened to all our young prospects I heard about two years ago?
