I was just curious on the status of Clement? I thought I had heard that he'll be out until late June early July. If and when he does come back what will his role be, and does he have any trade value seeing how he's a FA at years end.

He's not even good enough to be a bench warmer. I don't want them to waste a spot on him. I'd trade Clement for a bag of popcorn and a condom. That may be asking too much though. But seriously, I doubt the Sox get rid of him unless they eat 90% of his salary, which won't happen. I'll be glad when he walks at the end of this year.

I heard the brewers were offering a used condom. Is that a dealbreaker?

Maybe if the DNA in it is Ben Sheets and we can clone him, then it's a deal:thumbsup:

Theres no way to tell how well Clement will beable to do, he might come back strong after surgery, possibly go back to the NL and be a good 3 or 4(prolly a 5) or he could be completely worthless and go quietly into the night.

I think he be better off to learn to pitch LH! LOL

Elbow surgery has become a right of passage for pitchers these days and most of the time you actually come back throwing harder than you did pre-injury.

Shoulder surgery, on the other hand, is a deathknell for your career for the most part. Clement returning to his previous level of performance would be a miracle right now.

He's at least good to have on the team, we can't have a repeat of last year where starters went down and we had no one to fill the void. It can't hurt to have him.

Our best hope is if he gets in before the trade deadline, shows he can throw without his arm falling off and package him up at the trade deadline. Thats best case scenario.

I don't care if he ever pitches for the Sox again, but if we could pick up a minor leaguer or package him in a deal then atleast we get something out of him and it wouldn't be a complete waste.

Come on jackson he'll have some value though it may be very very very margianal.

what happened to the jeter pic?

If the Sox eat most of his salary, he could definately be a throw in on a trade or sent for a low level minor leaguer to a team that is willing to take a chance on him so that they might get some pitching depth.

But for this all to happen he will have to get into some games before the trade deadline, mid June by the latest, to have atleast a month to show he can throw a pitch. I don't really care what happens to him, I only mention a trade so that it wasn't a complete waste of 24M.

And if the Diamondbacks will give up 4 players, eat most the salary and sign RJ to a contract extension coming off of back surgery, then I'm sure theres a team out there that would give up a mid level prospect or take on Clement in a package deal.

Here's a question, say Clement comes back, shows he can throw decently without his arm falling off on the mound, what teams out there would take a shot on him?

Mets rotation sucks, so does DC, Texas is weak, come to think of it probably most teams in the NL would probably take a look or atleast kick the tires.

Guys, Clement is not expected back until the AS break assuming he has no setbacks. He is coming back from a surgery that is considered a career killer from its history. What makes anyone think that

A. he will make it back to the majors at all

B. he will be worth anything in the last yr of a contract that is overpriced and he will likely come back in a shell of his former s***** self.

Clement's entire resume is power. He will come back undoubtedly with much less velocity. There are guys who have excellent secondary stuff who I think will be fine post cuff surgery (Pedro), but the power guys typically are not. Clement is going to come back a la Kyle Snyder. Dont get your hopes up, he's worth nothing.

Not that I like Clement, but you couldn't be more dead wrong in an analysis of his stuff Jacko. He's got excellent movement on his FB and good offspeed pitches, which lends well to being able to pitch with a lack of velocity. Command and control are another issue, but his success won't be married to his power.

I agree one red seat, he may not fair to well in the al but he could be a decent nl 3 or4. He has some value as much as that pisses jacko off. But it won't be much.

Actually ORS, you know that I am right on this one. Clement's effectiveness is complemented by his movement, but if that sinking fastball isnt 94-95, he doesnt have enough movement or location ability to be effective. He is not the kind of guy who will get by with lessened velocity like Pedro or Mussina.

Did you even read the link? It says there is a chance he will be back in the 2nd half of the year and its the same surgery that Drew Brees had and look at him now. Clement isn't a lock to be back this year but he could be.

Anyone who is taking a football arm injury in the same context as a pitching arm injury should lose their posting priviledges for a week!!! (j/k). Clement MAY be back in the second half, but this injury commonly takes a year to recover from, if he ever recovers. Even if he comes back, he'll be very rusty and likely wont be worth having on the team anyway.
