The sox aren't run by the papers. I'd hope they make an offer.

All assumptions in Houston are that he is leaving Houston. All assumptions in NY are that the yankees will make a mega offer. All assumptions in Boston, well, there really havent been many. The moment Matsuzaka signed, the Clemens requests seemed to dissipate.

The assumptions are from writers and sports talk show hosts that create their own news. The Yankees have not had any more activity on the Clemens front than the Red Sox have had. Any predictions of where he will go and when are pure speculation at this point.

agreed. I have a feeling that Cashman and Theo have talked to Hendricks and both have the feeling that Clemens is coming back.

I expect the sox to make an offer. How big it will be, who knows, but they'll show respect. We all expected Dice-K to wind up in New York pre-bidding too, and then the Sox blew the bidding away. You never know what could happen. I think Theo would love to block Roger to the Yankees. I think Cashman would love to bring in Clemens until Hughes is ready.

It would be a major kick in the balls to the Yankees if Clemens returns to the Red Sox. I think JH and Theo would love to kick them in the balls, or maybe I'm just projecting my own emotiuons.

Exactly. Clemens keeps Hughes in the minors another yr to stretch out the arm.

As for Clemens, he would be perfect. Why? Cause 1-4 this team is set. I dont have an issue with 1-4 in our rotation. At the 5 slot we have 3 options to start the yr. Pavano is one that Cashman would take jizz on the teeth repeatedly to deal away, but everyone who wants him wants the yankees to take nothing in return and eat the contract, so that aint happening. Assuming we sign Clemens by the beginning of spring training to start in July, we essentially give Pavano the 5 slot, no matter what happens to the other guys, obviously barring injury. This gives Pavano time to build up his trade value then deal him once Clemens arrives.

If Clemens signs with the sox or houston prior to the season, then the 5 slot will be a fight. It wont be given directly to Pavano and the best man would win. At midseason, the ascension of Phil Hughes will begin depending obviously on how he is doing in AAA and how the 5 guy is. At the beginning of the season, we have 3 options for the 5 hole. In the middle of the season, the AAA guys will show what they are made of and the best one will be called up if needed. We have reinforcements, but they are green. Clemens would make them a little less green by giving them a year to mature.

From Sunday's Boston Globe:

When principal owner John Henry was asked how interested the Red Sox are in Clemens, here's what he had to say: "We feel that Roger coming back to finish his career in Boston transcends a lot of obstacles. We feel he is the greatest pitcher in history. We want to see him come full circle. All of New England wants to see this."

Clemens's agent, Randy Hendricks, hadn't heard from the Sox as of a few weeks ago, but recently that's changed.

"We have talked, and Boston is one of three teams special to Roger," said Hendricks. "He has not decided whether he will play, and I don't think he will decide for some time. We have discussed a shortened season, similar to last year. If he decides to play, I am sure he will consider Boston. I also am sure it will be a tough decision, just like last year."

JH sounds motivated.

JWH, in my opinion, is pulling out all the stops to try to win it in '07.

Good for him, it's what the team needed.

Clemens will not be going to Boston for sentimental reasons. Henry would have to put out an incredibly ludicrous offer for Roger to return to Boston. NY is expected to offer 15-20 mil for his services starting in late May, early June. Even that is stupid to me. To trump that is even dumber.

JH is motivated to get this guy, and Cashman is motivated to get younger and pare payroll. Expect JH to pull out all the stops. In addition to matching anything Cashman throws on the table, expect JH to spell out for the Rocket (and maybe even set it up to a degree) the bountiful opportunities in NE. The sentiment on all sides will be colored green, but for a change, Boston will have more to offer than NY.

It would also give a rotation of Clemens, Schilling, Matsuzaka, Beckett and Papelbon and could very well give the sox the flexibility they need to solve their bullpen woes by allowing Wakefield and possibly Lester to pitch from the pen. If the Sox win the WS nobody will complain if it has to be a ludicrous deal.

The Red Sox last year offered $21 million, who's to say they wont put forth around the same offer

Clemens is not going to Boston. 700' date=' I will own your sig line.[/quote']

Just like when you told us to return our Matsuzaka jerseys because he's not coming to Boston? B)

Before you sign him' date=' your FO will have to contact him.[/quote']

our FO has contact Hendricks daily essentially. Check any NY paper. Cashman has been in regular contact with Hendricks throughout the entire process. Clemens has stated that 3 teams are in the running, and we all know who those are. Other than that, he hasnt given any indication of his intentions.

the red sox offered a prorated portion of 21 mil, exactly what the yankees offered and houston offered.

Patience my dear 700. I have already outwitted you, you just dont even know it.

Check any NY paper.

New York papers have NEVER EVER been known to look at the baseball world through rose-colored Pinstriped glasses...

Just like the Globe is completley unbiased toward the Sox.

Posted
the paper has reported that the yanks have made contact. That is all I am saying. Bias is interesting. Like how the NY Times is part owner of the red sox. I wonder who they are biased towards?

I don't understand the drooling over Clemens. I'm just not a fan of him.

He isnt the guy he used to be, that is for sure. But he can give you 6 innings of dominance on a nightly basis. That is good enough for me, especially if our 5 spot / audition blows up in our faces.
