The San Francisco Chronicle's Ray Ratto calls it "likely" that the A's will send Joe Blanton to the Mets to get Lastings Milledge.

Ratto doesn't attribute the comment to any source and isn't exactly known for breaking stories, so we're pretty skeptical about this one. If the A's could get Milledge for Blanton, it'd be a great trade. Blanton would likely be a solid NL starter, but he doesn't have Milledge's potential.

I saw this too a day or so ago. No sources and apparently this guy is a bad source.

Still, if true, it'd be a steal for the A's.

Not so sure...all of a sudden, Milledge is completley available. Remember when he was off the table for anything that didn't involve a definite number one starter or Manny? There's gotta be more to this guy than we're all seeing...and the "more" must not be good...

But a guy with that much upside getting dealt for a #3/#4 starter?

Milledge attitude sucks. It was said a few of the veterans had to put his ass in place. Hes one of those guys who has great talent, but since he was on the big league club he thought he made it and the rest was gravy. He has a bad attitude and little respect. he's your typical NBA/NFL player but he plays baseball. The Mets saw the beginnings of what could be a extrem headache and are acting quickly to send him packing before he does something that makes other clubs realize he has a severe attitude problem. he's looking like the next Milton bradely/Carl Everett great talent, horrible attitude.

I was on the another board just browsing and some where saying, "hes just a typical homeboy thug that thinks he is the greatest thing like since sliced bread and hes the baddest mo fugga on the block. I thought it was a funny way to explain what hes like. Put him in Oakland and he prolly wear a blue bandanna out of his back pocket with a 9MM in his belt throwing up gang signs in RF"!LOL

He is a young kid who was brought up to the majors for a playoff team. Some kids have more composure than others. Give the kid a break. His attitude should mellow out. He did not seem like Bonds or Everett. Milledge loved to play, you could see that. If they are in the mood of giving him away, I'll take him.

bonds loves to play too

carl everett undoubtedly would hit a guy in the face with a bat to win

this is the guy the sox insisted on for manny??

the mets shouldve dumped him

I just don't see this happening I think the A's would have to add a little more into the package to pry Milledge away from the Mets.

the mets were 1 pitcher away from a winnable world series

lastings millege for joe blanton wouldve gotten it done for them last year i feel

of course the mets go into this season with tommy glavine, who was in the same classes as my 45 year old wife as their hoss and petey is f***ed up in sooo many places theres a great chance he wont see the mound ever again??

i have to wonder if theyre going to be as good as last year and be the nl's chalker

they do have a good lineup with delgado deluca wright and some speed

i just dont know

so when in doubt trade for pitching i guess

I couldn't agree with you more. The guy is VASTLY overrated.

Lastings Milledge is the man, don't believe me? http://milledgefacts.blogspot.com/

Honestly, I think Milledge ie being tossed around like spare change in rumors. He has great talent and was mentioned as one of the integral parts of a Manny deal not too long ago. His reputation has really taken a hit and the Mets might regret parting ways with such a promising young OF if they keep lowering his value.

I think that's a bold statement about a guy like Blanton...he hasn't shown me enough to say that yet. And even if he had...still...I don't do this deal. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that he would be the key link that was missing to take the NYM a ring last year...but where does this move put them in 2 years? They've got Glavine who's over 40, Pedro who's nearing 40 and VERY injury prone, and El Duque who's probably 54. Trading a huge talent like Milledge for a guy like Blanton just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe for Danny Haren, definitley for Rich Harden...but Blanton? Nope.

I don't agree with this deal, but I'd definitley say the A's are getting the farrrrrrr better end of it.

how many prospects or # of his children do you think omar minaya and the owners in flushing meadows would deal for a world series??

this is the same team that dealt kazmir for the sucky zambrano

christ

joe maine was a key ingrediant for them last year

the mets havent won in 20 years

i suspect they would deal lastings millege for a title at the drop of a hat
