I bet tortilla sellers in the Arlington area are happy about this.

I don't know if people still do that for him, actually.

This isn't a great deal, but it isn't terrible.

Padilla does miss bats, and he keeps the ball on the ground, which is a must for Arlington Stadium. If the Rangers add Jennings and Pettite, it would be a good offseason.

I think so. Matsuzaka was offered 7-8 mil over 4 yrs by the sox. Padilla is not in Matsuzaka's class' date=' apparently. Boras' numbers just rose significantly.[/quote']

15 million? This is based on a hunch with no bias, correct?

Matsuzaka will probably command $11-13 million. Which would put him line with Halladay, Santana, Sheets, and more recently Carpenter.

actually, the way they broke down Carpenter's deal, the extension is 3yrs for 50mil. He was signed until 08 as it was anyway.

Also, the other deals you were talking about were consummated prior to this offseason, which means they are now bargains. Padilla and Eaton are the new benchmarks. For a crappy injury prone pitcher, you get 3yrs and 24 mil. For a crappy durable yr, you get 11mil a season. How about for a 26yr old guy with Matsuzaka's rep?

I thought Matsuzaka only had the ceiling of a 3. At least, that was according to your scouts.

A 3 will command 11-13 million a year. Can't have it both ways, Jackson. Either you think he' s ace caliber and will get ace money or he's a 3 and will get 3 money.

and this is Boras we are talking about. The guy will not go in saying that a few japanese scouts said that he is likely to be a 3. He is going to go in saying that this guy is going to be better than Pedro in his prime and he wants to be paid like it.

You don't think the Red Sox also know that scouts are saying he's going to settle in as a 3? You think they haven't done their research? You don't invest $51 million without knowing what's going on first.

The question is, who's right? The scouts? Boras? Tell me. You think he'll settle in as a 3 starter but get paid ace money. I don't see that happening, especially since there's so much pressure on Boras to get a deal done.

They'll offer him about $12 mil/yr, and Boras and Matsuzaka will agree on one of the last few days.

The alcohol distrubuters in Texas must be happy with Padilla getting 10 million a year( sorry, its a low blow, but couldn't pass it up:dunno: )

I have seen him pitch on you-tube and at the WBC when the hitters were certainly not awake yet. His stuff is solid, but I have no speculation how he will fare in a 5 man rotation in the AL East.
