on NESN theyw ere talking about a 3 way deal between the Sox, nats, and Giants, involving Manny and Chad Cordero. Sounds good, but Id rather just deal straight up with the Nats for Cordero and keep Manny. Then we just need to sign Lugo and our offseasons almost complete.

The Herald is reporting that Bowden of the Nats is saying tehre will be a blockbuster deal in place within 72 hours. All is speculation however, as no otehr sources ahve reported the Sox are close to anything.

We won't be able to deal for Cordero without parting with key pitching prospects, most likely.

Although there were rumors that Bowden was very high on WMP.

also a coincedence that Theo said that after Wednesday he's going to stop talking about Manny?? <_>

What about that 3-way deal with BOS/WAS/SF

boston.com has chad comin here, manny to sf, and noah lowry to was. This deal doesn't make any sense to me. Not only do the parts not make sense, but we better be gettingw ay more. I don't understand why we can't just go for Cordero straight up, using WMP.

Worst potential Manny deal I've heard so far.

Cordero for WMP? HAHAHAHAHA. Man, I had to laugh that one off for a sec. Whoa, let me catch my breath. You are trying to tell me that swinging Wily Mo is worth the best young closer in baseball. Man, you are killing me.

Stop making an ass out of yourself. You know we didn't say WMP for Cordero stright up, of course it would take prospects. I was simply stating that Id ratehr give up some and keep manny then gvie up some and trade Manny in the process.

That's retarded. The Giants get Manny for Lowry?

Cordero be nice but we better end up with SF best pitching prospect( his name evades me at this point in time) atleast. Cordero would be awesome to have as closer but we need to get atleast one or two prospects in any Manny deal plus a ML.

Couple of things...

1) The JD Drew waiting game continues. The Sox have long been the favorites to land Drew and for a couple of weeks we have kept hearing the official announcement will come soon. They said it would happen this past wknd, it didnt. Now Theo is saying that it might come before Thursday (winter meetings ends), "maybe, maybe not"

2) Theo envisions Mike Timlin being able to regain his role as principle set up man. Doesn that make everyone feel warm inside

Given Callaghan's bashing of Manny, I'm thinking they are considering making a deal and it ain't one we're going to be ga-ga over...thus the anti-Manny spin begins.

Yeah, the deal you responded to seemed a little weak, but I don't think, if a deal is made, the Sox are going to get close to an equal return. I hope to be wrong.

Posted
What would be equal return? Another right handed power bat with the HOF in sight? None of those seem to be available right now, so they will have to take less value. And the more players they get in return, the lesser the value will become. If you want one stellar player or 2 good players or 3 prospects or 4 long range prospects, get the drift. I see the sox filling the closer role with a guy in this trade, but likely not an elite closer, filling SS with a defense first SS (like Gonzalez was) and then getting a prospect or two that are long range. Fills holes but doesnt give that warm and fuzzy feeling and in 3 yrs the impact will likely never be felt.

Todd Jones-esque type closer, alex cora type shortstop, two lower tier prospects-- Why havent the Sox jumped on this type of trade yet??!

I see what youre getting at but I cant believe the Sox will lie down for 0.20 on the dollar

that is why I was shocked when they turned down LaRoche and Broxton. Broxton would step in as closer and LaRoche is ready now to play 3b as a right handed power bat with 19HRs and a .900+OPS last season in AAA. That's better than anything they will get elsewhere.

The Manny Ramirez sweepstakes are heating up, with the talk now shifting from the Dodgers (whose offer of LaRoche and Broxton fell short) to the Angels, who are reluctant to offer Scot Shields plus one of their top prospects. The Red Sox are still at the center of pretty much all discusions, centering on Matsuzaka, Drew, and Lugo, but so far, have been the belle of the ball without doing much of anything. One good note from Red Sox Nation is that reports on Jon Lester have been very positive.

puzzling that they are looking for young talent, they get offered a young power arm who could close and a young powerful 3b and they turn it down, instead choosing to focus on the 31? yr old Shields who has thrown near 100 innings for the past 3 or 4 yrs.

Theo probably thought he could get more out of the Dodgers.

Don't be shocked if these rumors of LAA being involved won't make the Dodgers try to get Manny a little harder. especially with news Maddux is close to a deal with the Pads.

Here's something that's really puzzling. Well, it's not really puzzling if you consider the source....

Three days ago in the Dontrelle to the Yanks? thread.

If you can get a power corner IF, a top 5 pitching prospect, a switch hitting CFer coming off a solid rookie yr, and a reliever who had a nasty 100IP+ season and I am not sure if any team could beat that unless they deal from their MLB talent.

Apparently, Proctor's 100 IP at 30 y/o is a good thing. When the Sox want Shields, who has a rubber arm, it is a bad thing. Puzzling indeed.
