Jayson Stark of ESPN is reporting that the Red Sox are one of a few teams interested in Octavio Dotel.

Octavio Dotel's agent, Dan Horwits, told a group of reporters Monday that there is "no question" that Dotel is now fully healthy, a year and a half removed from Tommy John surgery. Dotel is being as hotly pursued as any free-agent reliever left on the market. But according to one team that has inquired about Dotel, he has filtered out nearly all the clubs that want him to set up and expects to sign with a team that will let him be a closer again. That group would include the Red Sox, Devil Rays, Guardians and Royals.

If this is true and the Guardians tab Borrowski as their closer as previously rumored this could put the Red Sox in the lead. If he really is healthy he's a good pitcher but I've got my doubts about him as a closer.

I wouldn't put him in the closers spot as of now, December 4th.

But he's a solid arm when healthy and we can do a lot worse IMO.

he is a guy who is not ready to close yet. He showed flashes of brilliance but was downright awful most of the time. They say that you usually get it all back 2 seasons after TJ. Last season was the first season, next season will be the 2nd. He should be back to being Octavio in 2008, but next yr is a huge risk.

There seem to be a lot of players on the market who "used to be good". I would pass on these players, as the Yankees have shown to take a chance and rarely have it work out.

Was just looking at the FA list and rotoworld's potential trades and I thought the exact same thing...lots of guys who may be comeback candidates...or could just as easily be has beens.
