Jimmie Lee Solomon, executive VP of baseball operations in the commissioner's office, said any side deals used to convert Daisuke Matsuzaka's posting fee into salary for the right-hander would not be allowed.

So, MLB wants to crack down five years after the Mariners were allowed to go around the posting system with Ichiro? "There are no side deals in the situation," Soloman said. "Everybody's been assured that's not allowed, and everybody's been made aware of the rules." We'll see. The whole posting system is ridiculous in the first place and can only breed corruption. A report earlier this month, prior to the awarding of Matsuzaka's rights, said that three teams had attempted under-the-table negotiations with Seibu. After the events of this winter, maybe MLB and Japan will get around to trying something different.

now that would put a huge wrinkle into the negotiations.

Hey Jackson, why are you spreading your NYY fan propaganda? You really should be worried about the bid you guys made for Igwa. You guys spent 25 million to talk to a guy that the MLB all starts said wasn't even a ML quality. Stop trying to stir the pot:D

David Wright wasn't all that impressed. Jose Reyes was, and here is his quote:

Reyes was impressed with Igawa.

"He has good stuff," Reyes told Newsday. "He throws hard and has a good changeup."

Maybe you should check up on your points before you make them. Keep trying...

I still think we should have gone after Barry Zito.

I have already said that the Igawa posting was preposterous. Please try not to bring that into this. This is solely about the matsuzaka negotiations.

You can find a guy off the street that can throw 84-86mph. He has a weak fastball and a looping curve. Reyes was trying to be the nice guy, and Wright just flat out told the truth, I'm not trying to change the post just a playful poke in the ribs now that both our teams have thrown big money at unproven guys.

Facts bosox. Please stop polluting a thread about the matsuzaka negotiations. If you have qualms about the signing of Igawa, go to the igawa thread.

You're pushing Igawa and you don't think Matsuzaka is MLB caliber?

Show 2 other people that were impressed with Igawa. So far, Reyes is the only one, out of everyone who has spoken about Igawa, to be impressed with the guy.

Aside from Reyes there isn't anyone who thought that Igawa was a great pitcher. I mean who knows we haven't seen him pitch in the big leagues. But If big league hitters don't think he's anything special then he's probobley going to be a flop when he comes into the MLB. Yankees paid way to much to talk to this guy that is for sure. I would have bid 5 Million at the most for this guy even that is too much.
