I saw this on another board I used to post at, and thought it would be a pretty good idea. Take a look at the points the poster made:

Quoted:

I still see a lot of evidence to support how smart a move the 6 man rotation is.

- It allows Matsu to stay in what he is confortable with

- Schilling has great 5 day rest numbers

- Clemens and Wake are +40 and would surely benefit from the extra day

- Becket's skin gets an extra day of rest in an effort to minimize blistering

- Papelbon gets extra rest as he transitions to starter.

In weeks when they have off days, Wake moves to a role in the pen." END QUOTE

Add in the fact that there have been rumors about Wake in the pen, Theo meeting with Adam Eaton, and the continuous Clemens rumors and we could very well see a 6 man rotation or at least a variation of it.

I like teh 6 man rotation diea' date=' and if Clement is betetr we can amke a 7 man, and if lester is ehalthy an 8 MAN!!![/quote']

I seriously hope that's a joke. A 7 or 8 man rotation would be death to every arm in it.

Indeed. But a 6 man rotation does make a bit of sense in this situation. Paps is a rookie and has never thrown a full season before. Matsuzaka is a great unknown, under tremendous pressure, and is used to 5 days off. Schill is old, Wake is old. Beckett has recurring blister problems, and has only gone over 200 innings once (in '06).

That being said, the only thing missing in the 6th starter. I would question the priorities of the front office if they went looking for a 6th starter when there are so many other holes to be filled (RF, short, closer).

Nice.

The only thing I could see, and I just thought about this, is that they could go ahead and make a pretty big offer on a guy like Schmidt and make a nice low offer to Matsuzaka, essentially allowing their bid money (which is not in the luxary tax threshold) to influence Seibu to pay whatever the difference is. So for 24 million a year (14 Schmidt, 10 Matsuzaka) they could get both guys, thus completely frustrating the Yankees, as I get the sense that they see Zito the same way most of us do: as a guy who benefited from that Oakland's big park and somehow overcame a horrible control problem. I'm not betting the farm on Zito being a star the next few years. Good yes, not great. Schmidt on the Yankees concerns me.

Clemens is also the great unmentioned. With Clemens there is every reason in the world to do a 6 man rotation, though I'm not sure they would.

Given the insight which was given to you, explain the sarcasm. There was no mention of Matt Clement, or Jon Lester. Please revisit the situation and add some intelligent criticism. I have no problem with criticism if it is relevent, please don't make me go on another rant about this board and the select few who continuously provide nothing (not suggesting you Cityofchamps33, since I tend to enjoy reading some of your posts, but in general and you probably would agree about a select few) and this is not a point that I myself constructed, just something I thought would be interesting to talk about.

If Clemens were part of the mix, and with the possibility of 3 arms at or around the 40 mark, and the uncertainty of Matz and Paps I think it could work. The starting arms could go deeper in to games, the relief arms have less of a chance of screwing it up, and unlike last year we would truly have 6 quality arms assuming Matz does a good job.

I tend to agree that Eaton might be a headache, but then again he did pitch in Texas, which has killed some arms over the years. Other than that he is serviceable. I think that if Clemens were to pitch here the idea of a six man rotation could be intrigueing.

A 6 man rotation is perfectly logical, so he could not make an actually arguement ... and just chose to make fun of you.

Don't worry about 99.9% of CoC posts are much like his in this thread ... no stats, or facts, or actual thoughts ... just a stupid comment.

I'm sure the thought of having 5 days to spend with his family instead of 4 would appeal to Clemens.

Do you want to pay a guy $18-$20 million to start 30 games and never be around the clubhouse or go on road trips?

I'd be willing to do it for a season, if he still wins the games and we get another WS. yeah, I'd be okay with that. I'd also be okay wth the Clemens/Schilling money coming off the books next year, freeing up 30 million + for spending on a CF, SS, 3B or 1B.
