The team was in a tailspin.

I know but everyone was talking about the team like they were the Pirates, and only had 10 wins last year. It's impossible to be positive when you're in a tailspin, but people we're way overblowing it.

HAHAHAHHA 2 million dollars a year ... for Alex f***ing Cora ... what a joke. I don't think Cora is worth more than 250k.

I don't understand the point of signing s***** bench players before signing people who are actually gonna help the team. Like was there really a big demand for Alex Cora? I'm pretty sure if we didn't resign him he'd be with the Rockies, the Pirates ... or out of baseball.

Hammer, good to see you here again. I thought you left us. You know it's like the old spinster who keep taking in stray dogs. Our Boy Blunder can't help himself; he has to take in as many washed up rejects as he can get. Cora was rejected by the Dodgers and Guardians so now we have a guy who probably would have been hard pressed to even get an offer from any other team. Good work Theo; we knew we could count on you for screwing up again. What's next? Resigning Jason Johnson?:thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Cora is a solid' date=' smart bench player - it's been speculated the Sox are grooming him for a coaching position. Obviously you don't want him get 250 ABs a year like he did last year, but he plays both middle IF positions and really doesn't hurt you that badly. $2M might be a little much, but it's probably worth a few hundred K to the FO not to have to spend time recruiting a UtIF when they've got bigger fish to fry. Also, Tito loves Cora.[/quote']

Well Bosox, we better start catching some fish and frying them because right now we haven't done a damn thing to improve ourselves, unless you think Alberto Castillo is improvement. Oh yes, he might be. He played in Triple A this past season. Talking about taking stray cats in.:thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Just a little blowing things out of proportion of a guy who will be the bench player, not an actual starter

Cora when used right like in the 1st half was producing web gems and was hitting above .300. His stock dropped in the 2nd half due to the influx of injuries (Gonzo, Loretta, Lowell) that forced him into regular starting time. Sorry I just dont see that much to bitch about a guy you mostly see sitting on the bench watching the game. And sarcastically asking if Theo will resign Jason Johnson is going a little too far

Wow. I can't believe the amount of attention the utility guy is getting. Nor can I understand the sentiment that the FO is dicking around this offseason. The biggest problem last year was a weak starting rotation, and thus far they have made (potentially) the biggest splash in the biggest position of need. They spend some coin, and it's still not enough. MC Hammer might be right about some of you. You are like Yankee fans.

Since when is wanting the FO to spend money acting like yankee fans. The Red Sox have always spent money (Pedro 7 years 100 mil, Manny 8 years 160,) Im just dont want to go through a season like last year, when we had nothing positive to talk about by Aug. 20th

Wanting them to spend money isn't where my comment applies. That was meant for those complaining that they aren't doing anything to help the team while ignoring the bold move in the Matsuzaka sweepstakes. Cora is the utility guy. If they are going to bitch about not acquiring a top FA for the bench, well, then they are like some Yankee fans.

Riverside, when Daisuke is inked and under contract, then I will breathe a sigh of relief, but until that day comes I will withold celebrating because we still might lose him. Remember, Boros will be asking for a lot of money and Theo might dig in his heals and go the "budget limit" again and lose him as he lost Johnny Damon last year. As for Cora, there were better offensive players out there like Joe Mckewen. If one of our regularss gets hurt and Cora goes into the starting lineup I fear the same thing could happen again. As for Jason Johnson, look my friend, any time a GM goes to the waiver wire to pluck rejects from Kansas City I would put nothing past him, but I thought that piece of sarcasm was worthy of Don Rickles. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed Riverside.

Boras doesnt have a lot of control, he wont let his clinet get screwed, but if D-Mat really wants to play in the majors is Boras not going to let him sign the higest contract the Sox offer? No, I think the sox can get him for a reasonanble 10-11 million a year.

ORS, we haven't signed Daisuke yet. That isn't a done deal by any means and if Theo decides to stick to a "budget figure" as he did with Damon last year we might lost this pitcher. Let's wait until his name is on the dotted line before we celebrate. Remember, his agent is Scott Boros and he will not be giving us a discount by any means. We are going to have to pay to sign this guy.:( :( :( :( :( :(

Lets also remember that Theo wasnt around last Dec. Whether he was still working behind the sceen, I dont know. I think if Theo was still at the helm their would have been better commiuncation between Boras and the Red Sox, and there is a better chance that Damon is still a sox. Also, i think not making the playoffs has pissed Theo off and he doesnt want to face that faliure again next year.

Given recent comments made in the press by the FO, it seems apparent that they've made sacrafices in the past for this moment. In fact, I think it is very likely that the Damon and Pedro non-moves were part of this equation since they've been scouting him since '03 or so. They've always had the intent of cracking the Asian market. This looks like the big move. I'm confident they'll get him signed.

Yeah, I like the Job the FO seems to be doing, Im still a little confused why they are so obsessed with Lugo, but I guess he is a decent offensive player.

I read somewhere that they view short as primarily an offensive position, or at least moreso than other clubs. :dunno:

I enjoy pissing people off here by stating my opinion.

my guess would be that you piss people off wherever you go, not by your opinions, but solely with your presence.

Anyway, Cora is just another example of baseball salaries gone crazy. $2m per? Nice.

You like the job the FO is doing. Really???? Please tell me what the hell the front office is doing except for signing a non-entity minor leaguer like Alberto Castillo, and reinking two time reject Alex Cora? It hasn't done a thing in the nine days of this free agent period. Yes, we won the big for Daisuke but we haven't signed him yet and until we do we haven't done a damn thing. We could be doing a lot of other things right now like signing that RF and SS and set-up man that we need, that is, while some of those types are still out there.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

What have the Yankees done themselves. It is early in free agency. Signings will happen.

We're a little preoccupied at the moment with Matsuzaka, seabeach. I understand the frustration, but if/when they sign Matsuzaka I think you will change your tone. I agree though, they really need to sign someone who can make an immediate impact. I'm surprised that they didn't go after Speier really quickly. It doesn't seem like it would have taken them too much time to sign him to a deal. They desperately needed him, and now he's gone. I hope this FO wakes up and realizes the fact that we need to start filling holes before everyone's off the market. I can understand that they're a bit preoccupied with Matsuzaka but I agree with you in that it's no excuse to not fill the other glaring holes that currently plague the team.

I agree, but when people like Speier and even Mike Stanton fly off the market this quickly (not to mention Soriano and A-Gon), things need to start getting done. I'm happy that they're taking the time to negotiate with Mastuzaka, but they really need to get serious and get busy, and fast.

That being said, it's quite possible that they're on the phone with many agents as we type :)

Jsing, I wish I had your confidence right now, but I have seen this before---like the last two off seasons. Many players like Pierre, Alou, Catalanotto, Speier, Soriano, Garciaparra, DeRosa and others have already signed up with other teams. I just believe we could be moving just a wee bit faster than we are. Sometimes I get the impression that Theo cannot pull the trigger as he once could.::dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Schill, that's what I have been trying to tell everyone. Many think time is one our side but I do not. We should be taking care of our other areas while we wait for the Daisuke signing. We have to start moving.

We will sign guys once we know who is offered arbitration. Theo isn't going to hand over draft picks for no reason.

I think the signing is good but it was a bit too much money for him. He's a good bench player but he's not worth 2 million a year.
