I commented on this in the WS thread, but I think this may deserve a thread of it's own. I'm sure Kenny Rogers may dismiss this as no big deal in the post game interviews, but it certainly looks like he was loading the ball, and I'm sure the Cards will try to make an issue of it. I wonder if MLB will look back on the playoff tapes to see if the mysterious brown spot was on his hand in other games this post season.

It must have been left over from when he does it for batting practice to entertain the fans...right? I mean, that's a perfectly reasonable excuse.

But yea, it's going to be interesting to see his side of the story about this.

whats "loading the ball" mean?

Applying any foreign substance to the baseball, which alters the true flight of the ball. In Rogers case it may give him more of a break to his curveball. Pine tar and vaseline are two of the more common ways to "load the ball", hiding the substance in a glove, under a hat, on the neck or behind the ears.

It was so obvious that youd think it was benign. How could he even think of getting away with it like that?

That's my inclination as well. It's just too obvious. It looked like iodine or something.

How many times do we have to watch Kenny Rodgers holding back tears after games? I just don't get his success, but he appears to be really, really on (duh!).

On ESPN, they have two pictures from different games. Sunday's game, and ALCS game 3. The substance was on his hand in both pictures. I don't see how he can get out of this one. It definitely seems like he cheated. If it wasn't a big deal, then why did he go to wash it off? (One of the smartest things I've heard McCarver say...and that's not saying much)

It was probably dirt.

La Russa, Pujols and Rolen all gave comments saying it was most likely dirt, as did the umpire, and that it was no big deal. Its the damn media that seem intent on making it a big deal.

lyk omg keNNy rahgurs gots dirt on hiz HANDS on a baysbal feeld!!!!!onemilliononehundredeleventhousandonehundredandelevenpointoneoneone111!!!11111!

He probably used the dirt to moisten his hands, in the cold they get dry it hurts your control a little bit. You can legally put dirt on your hands so long as you wipe it off. He probably didn't realize he didn't get it all off. I used to do that all the time.

I dismiss anything brought up by Tim McCarver and Joe Buck as complete and utter crap. They are both Cardinals supporters. They tweak everything to be positive towards the Cardinals and Yankees and sound disappointed whenever the opposing team does anything. Both of them should be fired or banned from doing Cardinals and Yankee games. They as well as Fox the network have an agenda, and are by far the worst broadcast team in sports. They should be ashamed

Yea but that's not the first time that hes had crap on his hands he had it in the LDS and the LCS as well just noone ever said anything until Larussa spoke up. And Selig isn't going to say anything about it, he doesn't want accusations of cheating going on in the World Series and just put a bad name on baseball. Rogers is a bum and he always has been.
