A little advice: You're not going to make friends by joining and talking like that on your first day.

By the way, it's "here" not "hear." And also, are we really getting stupider?

By the way, if A-Rod was available and you didn't even care to see what it would take to get him, YOU would be the one on crack. Why would you NOT want the BEST PLAYER IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE? f*** man, he puts up above average numbers on a DOWN YEAR! If there was a way to get him to play SS in Boston, you would be f***ing insane to not want it. Who gives a s*** if he hasn't come through in the clutch in New York? All he needs is some fine tuning. And if he EVER came out of that funk, you'd be eating a plate of s*** before my eyes.

I think I lost IQ points from reading your post.

Actually, I've been feeling the collective IQ of the board go down recently.

You know, I really don't like the exclusivity of one renowned Sox site. That kind of closed doors policy doesn't sit well with me. That said, people like this are a constant reminder of why it might not be such a bad thing.

Is it that hard to hit the "Shift" key?

Is it that hard to spell words vs. using txt-type?

Frustrating.

Sorry didn't realize this was grammer school, I thought it was a bunch of guys talking baseball, but anyways sorry for starting off on the wrong foot. But honestly papi for arod? yes it be the deal of the century but if the Red Sox didn't win a bunch of titles it would always be thought of as a bust. Plus I think the last time the Sox and Yanks made a deal was in the late 80's, so again I say, why trade someone who has proven time and time again he can come threw in the clutch for someone who only cares about his own personel stats and can only try's in the regular season and disappears in the post season? Don't get me wrong Arod will probably go down as one of the best I just don't see why we should add him. Another point is the yanks picked up shef's option to make sure he didn't go to the sox or anyone else thatcould give them issues, if they kept an old fart from joing the team why the hell would they let Arod come to us? come on i'm just sayings it;s a little far fetched, like I said before what next brady( 3 rings) trade him for manning( all the stats you could ever want, but sucks in the playoffs( this generations Dan Marino) if this was the subject people would be trying to find this guys address and burn him at the stake.

It's not grammar school. But, they teach grammar for a reason. It's not to bust your balls, but to make it so that what you are communicating is easily understood. Not using your grammar skills shows that you either don't respect yourself because you don't convey your message as best you can, or you don't respect your audience because you don't care about how difficult it is for them to read it.

Either that, or the schools really suck in this country.

As far as the grammar goes, see what ORS said.

I agree with you that Papi for A-Rod would be a mistake. I'm just saying that most people think that it would be a sin to add someone like A-Rod to our team. I would never make an A-Rod for Ortiz trade, but I would definitely look to add A-Rod to our team, considering the cost. I wouldn't trade Manny or Ortiz for him, but would I pay him a boatload of money during the off season to come play in Boston if he was a FA? Definitely. And I can think of quite a few players on our current ball club that I would trade to the Yankees for someone like A-Rod. Would you really not want to add A-Rod to the Red Sox and sacrifice tons of talent based on the sole fact that he was once the most hated figure in the eyes of Red Sox fans? If he came to the Red Sox, I have a good feeling that he'd be embraced. The hatred people have for him are based solely on the fact that he was once a Yankee. That kind of logic that some Sox fans use to back up their thoughts that A-Rod would never be wanted or fit in Boston really irritates me.

ORS: I'm not condoning a "closed doors" policy, but when someone comes in shooting their mouth off (see that Tony guy from a few weeks ago...actually, he's the starter of this thread), it's irritating. This site is composed of a great community of members that respect each other despite a difference of opinions/views/morals/etc. So, when someone, on their first day as a member of that community, shoots off their mouth, and looks like an uttering idiot in the process, it irks me. It seems that we value and hold a certain level of respect here, and when someone falls short of the simple task of showing it, it's provoking. I have no problem when someone new comes here with respect towards the existing members. I love it when we have new members so the community grows.

no question he's a wonderful player. if he was FA then yes I would say sign him, I was just put off of the idea of him for Papi, if there was another way we could get him without selling the farm or trading basically the face of the franchise then yes of course do it, I wouldnt mind AROD in Boston. He would most likely have the best success there, can you imagine how hard he want to beat the yankees? He would hate them as much as the fans do and want to stick it to them everytime, if the RED SOX fans embraced him he would be great,if they didn't he might stumble like he has in NY, but realalisticly the only two teams I could see him getting traded to are LAA and the cubbies, and if he stays in NYY I think he opts out of his contract at the end of the season and signs somewhere for like 18mil a season next year, and he does have an option in the contract at the end of next season, if I was the yankees I get something for him now before he leaves you hi and dry.

I can't see a situation that would have AFraud opt out of $23.75M for the next four years for $18M per. In addition to the salary he receives his marketing income by playing in New York is much greater than it could/would be anywhere else in the country. His ego would not allow him to take a pay cut. He stays put unless George really tires of him and AFraud decides to waive his no-trade clause.

Come on Arod wants to be loved, he Probably hates NY as much as most of us, hes got all the money he'll ever need, so whats a few million less a year to play somewhere your embraced instead of a place where they wait for you to make any mistake then put you on the front of the sport page and say how you will never be Derek "Jesus" Jeter, come on even someone with a big ego would get tired of that... just a thought.

I'm a Yankee fan...obviously...but the trade with the Red Sox doesn't make sense. Why would the Yankees want to trade Arod for Papi? Why would you want to trade a player who hit .091 in the playoffs this year, and 2 for 15 last year with a double play grounder that killed the Yankees season for one of the biggest clutch hitters baseball has seen in the last twenty years? I mean, Papi can't field. Arod only had about 25 errors or so. Thats only one every 5 games! We all make mistakes once a week, don't we? Unless the Red Sox threw in Papelbon, Hansen, and Varitek [you know, we need a back up catcher], I don't see this deal happening.

Now can you see why I don't post on Yankee boards anymore?

They just don't suck, but they may be the prime example fo why governments can't be trusted with anything.

Thanks GOM I completely agree with you even tho i´m a sox fan but atleast your a NYY fan with some common sense. I caught some crap for not wanting AROD on the team but all I was saying was like you said not for Papi. If he was a FA and since we need a ss and someone to hit behind Manny then yes, and with ARAM opt out of the CHC the only team I can see him maybe going to is LAA. I still say he plays another year and opts out of his contract and signs somewhere else to play SS. I´m not positive but I´m sure I read that the last few years of his contract are in the 19 to 22 million range? Is it really that hard to believe he opt out of a place he hates at age 33 and go sign a 5 year deal for 90-100 million to play SS in a place that will embrace him? For those who say he won´t leave all that money on the table is bs. He stands to make more if he opts out, how you say? Well if he opts out after the season he will be 33, it´s easy to say most any team would give him a 4 or 5 year deal in the 80-100rnge, if he stays for the remainder of his contract then when it´s over he will be 35/36? Somewhere in there and will not beable to get that 4 or 5 year deal for the big bucks more like a 3 year deal for much less also depending on how he is producing. So it´s not that hard to believe he will opt out.

Do you see a possible trade between the Red Sox and Yankees to acquire Alex Rodriguez? A change of scenery and being able to play shortstop again in a city other than New York could serve him well.

-- Rob G., Greenwood, Ind.

The Yankees are picking up Gary Sheffield's option so they can trade him to a team of their choice. Translation: They are trying to keep him away from the Red Sox. The fact they are going to such measures with Sheffield makes it clear to me that they would never in a million years entertain thoughts of dealing A-Rod to Boston.

found it on redsox.com just thought I paste it.( Ian Browne blog)

If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong, but I think that ARod's contract was actually structured very unusually, in that it was heavily weighted at the front and tailing off towards the end of the deal. Not that he's not making good money by the end, but I don't think it's close to as high as it was at the very beginning. Because of this, and because of the fact that I feel, if there are enough prospects and major league ready players included, the Yankees will be more than willing to pick up a VERY large chunk of the remainder of the deal (in addition to what the Rangers are always paying), I don't feel like ARod is out of the price-range of any of the major players in the big leagues. It's just a matter of who can put together the most attractive package to be sent to the Yanks. Basically, ARod's most expensive years are behind him. As far as a 5 year $90-100 million deal...I think that's a little extreme. ARod signed his current deal when he was a young stud shortstop with his best years in front of him...and it was high even considering those circumstances. I don't think he'll get a deal worth that much now, considering a 5 year deal would take him until he's almost 40.

Posted
Yes it was structured that way. That is why I say if he opts out now he will be 33 he could get 18 million for the next 5 years(probably)from any team wanting a big bat/SS, or get 18 million for 2 or 3 years on the remainder of this contract then at age 35/36 he could get a 3 year deal but not for 18 million, he would have to take a decrease then. That's why I say he stands to make more if he opts out and leaves NYY. And all those who say he won't cause that means he failed in NY.... ummmm he failed in Texas too but he left there as well. Just some thoughts.

Here is Arod's contract for his career [Texas's contribution in brackets]:

10 mil signing bonus [already factored in by his contract speculations]

2001: 22 mil

2002: 22 mil

2003: 22 mil

2004: 22 mil [3 mil]

2005: 26 mil [6 mil]

2006: 26 mil [6 mil]

2007: 27 mil [7 mil]

2008: 27 mil [8 mil]

2009: 27 mil [7 mil]

2010: 27 mil [6 mil]

He has some interesting clauses that actually decrease the value of his contract. He can opt out every year after 2007 [fat f***ing chance there], and 36 million of it is deferred with various payouts [too tired to list them all], with payments to begin happening in 2016 and ending in 2025 at 1.75% interest. He also has 1 million deferred from 2004-2007 at no interest.

He also has numerous clauses for awards [MVP, Silver Slugger, etc.]. So far to date, he has earned 1.2 million in bonuses so far [1 mil for MVP, 100k for All-Star, 100k for Silver Slugger].

He has another very interesting clause that states that in 2009 and 2010, he is GUARANTEED the higher of the following: A 5 mil increase, OR 1 mil greater than the average annual value of the position player with the highest annual average salary. This is already factored in [the five million] but I guess theoretically it could increase.

Want to know of a few bonuses he won't get?

D.S. MVP 150K

LCS MVP 150K

WS MVP 200K

**********. I hate Arod.

What an idiot Hicks was. 67 million not to play for your team. Holy s***.
