Wake is a super nice guy and is someone i like to have in my team club house but he getting up there up in ages and he has not been that good this year. I know peoples would said it was because the red sox trade away Doug Mirabelli but when sox when to get Doug Mirabelli it don't help a lot.

I hope wake can be with the red sox as a club house manger or someone who can work with the young players but the red sox need look at more young guys for the starting pitching like Kason Gabbard or Devern Hansack

Wakefield has really been his regular self (besides going on DL, just 2nd time of his career)

Innings eater, owns the only complete game by a Sox pitcher this year

4.50 ERA which is average for him making a solid 4th or 5th starter

Im guessing next season will be his last in the majors. A move to the bullpen in middle relief is possible.

200+ innings a year isnt easy to replace

its not a coincidence that the pitching went south with the losses of arroyo and wake

sure theyre not to be confused for cy young winners

however

we do get 400 innings of 4.5 era out of these guys each and every year and we had to replace those innings with??

the lenny dinardos and jj johnsons of the world..

its not a secret as to why we went into the shitter so quickly

Wakefield is 39 I believe but his arm doesn't have the wear that a typical 39 year old pitcher's does. He would be very valuable to this rotation next year, hopefully as a backend starter though

Exactly, keep wake and worry about other things!

Wake is needed but mirabelli is not needed. Find a catcher to work with Mirabelli all winter.

I don't know if Mirabelli will want to make himself expendable like that..but I think we do need Wake

Wake is a valuable guy to have around. Period. He can still pitch, he can fill holes, and he's a veteran in the clubhouse. Plus it's pretty refreshing to have had the same guy on the team for a kajillion years in this time of free agency and bidding wars.

Whatever it is, needless to say we need to get some pitching. Our revolving door of starters just isn't cutting it. As far as Wake, i'm with yezzir as far as its nice to have him there as a mainstay that hasn't left for the money, and just loves being a Sox. I do think that he has some relief future, but his days of starting are pretty much over. Nixon is another one that personifies the "idiot" attitude that we all grew so fond of a few years ago. It would be a shame to lose him now, especially with what we got in the clubhouse now. I say get rid of Coco if anything, he has never been effective since we got him...a few great catches does not an outfielder make. That Pedrioa kid should make a great leadoff hitter next year.

We're ready to give up on Wake just cuz he has had two rocky starts since coming back from the dl. Maybe his numbers don't look that great this year, but he was getting no run support at the beginning. He is always consistent, year to year. Hes underrated. Yea, he is old, but knuckle ballers arms last longer. He deserves a few more starts before this conversation.
