If Nixon doesn't come back as the 4th OF, Gonzalez would certainly fill the bill, and as we have learned, the 4th OF on the Red Sox usually gets a lot of PT. The only question would be his price.

he said he money wont be afactor he wants to play for a contender. He would be foolish to look at this season and not even consider signing with the sox but i bet the twins might push for him

Don't want him. Too old and likely still wants some dough. the sox would be better using murphy as the 4th outfielder.
So your 4 OF's are Manny, Crisp, Wily Mo, and Murphy? Are you hell bent on being embarrased again next year?

Is that really the best we could do? I hope not. It would be like getting another Mike Lowell or Loretta. Good player but not someone that is going to make a huge difference.

Luis Gonzalez is an aging player. The Sox would be wise to stay away from him. I'll give Crisp a pass for being hurt for alot of the year as well as Pena. We don't need to be committing any money to washed up players.

I'm not going to engage in a big argument over Gonzalez. I have no idea what he has left, but if the Red Sox start next season with an OF of Ramirez, Crisp, Pena and Murphy we'll be lucky to finish second.

As it stands right now, Hinske is in line to be the 4th OF (he is signed thru next year)

Its no sure thing Crisp will still be on the team, odds are against him to even be with the Sox in spring training

That may be worse than Murphy. At least Murphy can play all 3 OF positions and he can go get the ball. Hinske looks like a fat softball player in the OF.

Im just going by from what I have heard from the herald/globe

And that is pure speculation at best. The only way I trade crisp is if the Sox get Brad Lidge back. Papelbon is likely headed to the rotation and a closer is needed for the short term.

I agree. I think Crisp could be here for quite awhile. The sox know his value quite well and they know he hasn't played up to his potential this season. They never said this guy was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. in fact, they could very well be planning on having him as the #4 OF in coming years, with another OF acquisition and/or Ellsbury becoming available. Crisp as a switch-hitting, speedy 3 position OF would be a great #4. They aren't paying him an absurd amount for a #4 OF.

But as a #4 outfielder that would be alot of money paid to crisp. Unless this team gets Lidge for Crisp then I don't think of moving him.

Yea not much 4th outfielders still have a contract left of 3 years/$15.5 million. And who's to say that Crisp will take it easy, him being given a demotion to a backup outfielder?

Luis is 39. His numbers aren't horrible but they're nowhere near what they were before all the 'roid talk....hmmmm...

I don't see the Sox going in such a direction.

Jay Payton might fit well here and....uhh....ok, no...been there, done that.

brad lidge??

has he gotten anyone out that mattered since last october?

stop it please

i barely lived thru the days of jim willoughby and bob stanley and bill campbell(bleacher tix were 2.00 before we signed bill campbell) and the man with the beard jeff reardon

i lived thru the tim wakefield and derek lowe experieces

i recall tommy gordon going 45-45 or something insane like that in 98 before he gave up the game winners against cleveland in game 3 of the playoffs(anyone remember pete schoureks last game??)....

didnt lidge lose the job in houston ??

why take on an obvious liability

if hes getting croaked in the nl central what will happen here??

5.62 era in the nl central??

that doesnt translate well over here and i also think that giving up on crisp goes against the best interests of the franchise

crisp is real young and has real upside

i dont think the big market frightened him

i think the park itself is a tuff place to play and i think his finger was f***ed up all year long

i'm willing to take a shot with him next season as hes the only outfielder we have on the 40man roster who can run like an outfielder should
