Untrue. The Pats blitz Manning all the time when they play the Colts. The one time Manning beat them was when they had a patchwork defense. Champ Bailey was keeping Marvin shut down basically single handedly. There was nothing that could have been done about Darrent Williams failed attempts. You don't have to blitz all 4 members of the secondary. Blitz Al Wilson and DJ Williams, leaving an OLB free to hold down the middle. That's 5 players guarding the pass, 2 blitzing linebackers, and 4 down linemen obviously going for the QB.

As far as looking ahead goes, I'm not saying Minnesota's a pushover, I'm just talking about the Colts anyway. In no way have I penciled them in for 6-1 after tonight. I just don't like how some people may have rooted for the Colts so that if the Pats win that game, they'd be atop the AFC.

yeah but you have to admit that the pats have a better defense wich they can cover one on one better than any other teams wich allows them to blitz more people without being hurt

The Broncos really are among the best cornerbacks in the league. There's not a team in the league that's more capable of great coverage from just their secondary. They haven't blitzed much all year. Tom Brady had a ton of time in the pocket against Denver... just nobody ever got open. It was the same case with Steve McNair and pretty much any other quarterback. Look at past examples of how teams have beat the Colts. The Patriots put pressure on Manning. The San Diego Chargers were able to beat the Colts because Shawn Merriman was in Peyton's face all game. Same can be said for Pittsburgh with Joey Porter.

If you give Manning all day, he will beat you. Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison will eventually get open if you give them enough time to. I'm not suggesting they didn't beat us because they have a great offense -- I'm saying we never gave our defense a chance, and it showed. I have two problems.

- The gameplan goes against all previous examples of how to beat the Colts. In the two times we met them in the playoffs, when we gave up 41 and 49 points, we blitzed the hell out of them and we didn't have the players in the secondary. Now we have the players in the secondary. We have three great corners, when the last few times we were relying on guys named Roc Alexander. Even if what we did seemed like a great idea, don't you, at some point after Peyton is torching us, think about switching. It was obvious to everyone but the people in charge that that gameplan wasn't working. We didn't disguise anything or create any confusion. If we disguised blitz's from Wilson, Gold, and Williams, we'd have had guys at the line of scrimmage to stop Addai. As it was, I've never seen LB's play so far back from the line of scrimmage. The people in charge of the defense, namely Coyer, were scared of the Colts and it showed in the gameplan.

- According to Darrent Williams, he was told to give Reggie Wayne a big cushion to not get beat deep. So Reggie tore us apart on short routes. If we blitzed and played physical with Reggie Wayne, Darrent Williams is a lot faster than him and could make up ground so as to not get beat deep. I blamed Darrent, but Darrent never had a chance with how they told him to play. Even then, Domonique Foxworth should've started. He embraces the challenge of facing top tier WR's and is better than Darrent, in my opinion. I remember him practically begging Shanahan to let him cover Randy Moss and he did a great job against Jimmy Smith last year, save for one big play that wasn't even against him.

Oh well, Mike Bell was pretty god damn impressive, eh? I can only imagine what Maroney does...

We have a cocky defense that holds grudges, though. After giving up a TD on a 18 yard or so drive against the Browns, they proceeded to record more sacks (2) than the Browns did first downs (1) for the last quarter. They'll come out and they'll be pissed off next week.

indy sent a message to the rest of the league last nite

manning moved the ball at will in the 2nd half against the broncos defense who hadnt been beaten badly all year

i wonder how the paths of brady and manning may have differed if the colts had a/v kicking instead of vanderjackoff

who is now in dallas??

11 minutes left in the first quarter and Denver is beating Pittsburgh 14-0 already. Jake looks good; the offense looks confident.

Who saw that Cowboys/Redskins game? The Cowboys f***ing suck.

Best game of the year.

Romo looked good. T.O. looks bad.

Its a joke that the Las Vegas oddsmakers made those stiff Steelers 3 point favorites. They are an easy cupcake.

Agreed. If Pittsburgh loses it may be their season. They barely made the wildcard at 11-5 last year. This would be their 6th loss.

Pittsburgh goes for it on 4th and 2, converts (is that technically a conversion, though?), geta big gain, fumble and the Broncos recover.

Pittsburgh's a mess.

Pittsburgh is officially finished.

I don't know. They came back from 21 down on us in one of our Super Bowl years when they had Kordell Stewart playing QB.

And let's face it... is Kordell Stewart really that much better than Big Ben? :D

But in all seriousness, they're just about done for. :D

They look alive to me. Roethlisberger, while horrible last week, had a couple of really good games against KC and Atlanta. He looks like he's continuing to turn the corner today also. They could get hot and run off some wins (including today).

Agreed. Everything said before was when it was 14-0 and the Steelers couldn't hold onto the ball. They're starting to look real good now. But the Broncos still have the deep ball, it looks like. Overthrew Javon by a couple inches on the last possession.

Big Ben just made a terrible decision, and an even worse throw. You don't throw up passes like that. You eat it and take the sack. You certainly don't do it to the guy Champ Bailey's covering...

This is where we saw how good or bad of a D-Coordinator Larry Coyer is.

The Colts gave the league a blueprint on how to beat this Broncos defense. Larry Coyer better adjust and get some pressure on the QB. Whether it's Big Ben this week or whomever in the future.

I don't think he's a very good Defensive Coordinator, personally.

edit: 14-10 at the half and the way the game is going in terms of them moving the ball and us not, it's starting to look like the AFC Championship game, except the Broncos are taking advantage of some mistakes. I'll be shocked if we win this game, personally. But we'll have the opportunity on these deep balls all day long, it appears.

Javon Walker is absolutely amazing.

I feel bad for Ike Taylor because I watched Darrent Williams go through it last week and Foxworth go through it in the AFC Championship game.

But whatever, I'll take it. :D

I have a great interest in this game because whenever I do a Franchise with my buddy in Madden, I trade for, and dominate with, Seneca Wallace and he gets the start for Seattle.

Looks pretty good after the first drive!

Larry Coyer sucks at D-Coordinator.

We've got a QB that got sacked 9 times last week, showed obvious signs of frustration and we make no attempt to get some linebackers in his face.

Can't complain too much, I guess. The defense has played good. But we could be forcing turnovers...

I have this MONSTER team in fantasy, it's ridiculous. In fact, Drew Brees is my backup quarterback behind Matt Hasselbeck. Doesn't look like Hasselbeck is going to start on my team anymore though. Brees, Javon, LT, Willie Parker all had HUGE games for me today.

The Javon pickup worked out better than i could ever dream. He only had two catches, but one came when we had no offense what-so-ever on a 40+ yard touchdown on a quick slant, I believe (I didn't see the play really well since I was working). Javon is just extremely good. I used to watch Packers games th year before last and wish I had Javon -- I think he's better now.

As for the game... you won't see my calling for Jay Cutler ever, but today this game looked like a lost cause, even when we were only down 6. So my thought was to give him a chance. The defense played good but I would've liked some picks created by pressuring Walter, but we got some turnovers late.

Jake looked bad for the most part, but he looked good in the 4th quarter aside from one bad throw which should've been a pick. But even then, it wouldn't have been too costly of an INT.

Thank god Shanahan's smarter than me and didn't call for Jay Cutler. We're a 7-2 football team and we don't need the controversy that'd follow a decision like that.

The win was a win. You're going to get games like this in the NFL. What's important is that you win them, not that you look pretty doing it.

Hester just tied the record for the longest return in the history of the League after Feeley missed a FG short.

Terrible decision making by the Giants, going for the first down instead of setting up the shorter FG. I also don't like the decision to kick it.

I say pooch it and pin Grossman back.

David Givens will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Givens finishes with only eight grabs in his first season in Tennessee. Look for Brandon Jones to move into the starting lineup. Givens' $8 million signing bonus should guarantee him a spot on next year's Titans team, but he may not be a fantasy factor again until 2008. Nov. 13 - 6:18 pm et

I picked up Lee Evans last week because I was short a receiver on my fantasy team. This week everyone is healthy, so I let him go and pick up a TE because Tony Gonzalez was hurting.

Then Lee Evans goes and gets 205 yards receiving and 2 TD's... in the FIRST QUARTER! I think I'll win this week anyway, I've still got LT waiting in the wings tonight.
