Bad move in my opinion. I realize Perez hasn't really put it all together yet, but he has ace potential if he ever figures it out. I was really excited when they got him, and now he's gone. Bad move, IMO; but at the same time I realize the urgency for relief help with Sanchez going down.

I completely disagree. After the Sanchez incident, they needed relief help. Linebrink is going to help them out a lot, IMO. Perez has something wrong with him, whether it be physical or mental.

Absolutely, like I said, the urgency for relief help justifies it. The Mets are playing for now, not the future. I guess it was a little strong to say that I dont like the move. It would be more accurate to say I have mixed feelings.

I smelled steroids with Oliver Perez. You don't lose velocity when you're that young.

Good point. Didnt even occur to me.

Interesting how he's back in SD now where he started out.

Yeah. I'm not one that goes crazy making accusations about players on 'roids, but players like Oliver Perez just seem blatantly obvious to me. One insanely good year, high velocity, the next thing you know MLB is "cracking down" on steroids and he starts to lose velocity, and suck, at a young age. Just seems too easy to catch.

Well Omar just said that Oliver Perez is a Met and the Linebrink rumors are false. So looks like we just wasted 3 threads.

Steroid speculation about a pitcher losing velocity is pretty unwarranted, IMO. Pitching velocity is as much flexibility and efficient motion as it is about strength. Besides, Perez altered his mechanics in order to reduce what the Pirates deemed a violent delivery, and that is likely what did it.

I agree, much more likely that its due to injury. Throwing 100mph at a young age is very bad for your arm. Theres no way steroids add 7-10 mph on a fastball.
