hmmm just wondering Thee Sox: did you see that catch(s) Coco made ?

defense worse than Anderson's please....

Yeah, one play is definitive of how good a player is.

Anderson is a legitimate GG out there in CF. Crisp is a corner, playing CF.

FRAR-

Anderson - 21

Crisp - 4

FRAA

Anderson - 10

Crisp - -3

I say trade Coco if you can get something really good, but don't do it just for the hell of it. Personally, I don't know who I want to keep and get rid of any more! I can't post lately because I'm just checking the computer quickly for trades and then getting off.

You do realize that Crisp gets a bad jump off those balls, and the only reason he makes that play is because of his speed? Coco Crisp is a CORNER outfielder, and that's where he should be. He definately is not a centerfielder, and if you think he's a better defensive centerfielder than Anderson, than I'm sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. We have a guy that is about as good as centerfielder as Crisp: his name is Rob Mackowiak, and if he had the speed that Crisp did, he would be decent out there, just like Crisp. He doesn't and therefore he sucks in centerfield. Again: speed does not equal a good centerfielder.

I know you watch more Red Sox games than we do so you'd know why Coco makes the catches he does. Thank you so much for clearing that up.

Well...maybe he took a few days off from getting great jumps on the ball against the White Sox. I was at all three of those games, and he definately was not getting great jumps off the bat, like a very good centerfielder can. If he didn't have that speed, he wouldn't survive out there, I guarantee it.

If Thome didn't have any power, he wouldn't hit home runs.

What's your point? You can't take away an attribute that someone has. Of course they get worse if you take something away...

Well, that wasn't my point. I was only saying that his speed is the only thing that keeps him alive in CF. I know he has great speed, and I'm not taking that away from him. But it takes more than speed to be a great centerfielder (or outfielder for that matter). Brian Anderson has above average speed, at best, and is a much better fielder than Crisp. I'm not taking anything away from Crisp, I'm just saying that he is not a natural centerfielder; Brian Anderson is.

Right, but it's a moot point because he does have that speed. As long as he has the speed, he'll survive playing CF. I'm not saying he's better defensively than Anderson, but saying he can't play CF because he relies only on speed isn't that great of an analysis. He makes the outs, that's all that matters. However, his speed can't help him on the more difficult plays (like the flyball in Seattle that he misjudged by about 5 feet at the wall). That's where good jumps help you. But he makes the routine play, and he can do it quite well, with the occasional diving catch.

I must say, his arm sucks though.
