It’s too bad that Gabbard’s utility is limited in that he can’t work out of the pen. I heard something about this on NESN, that due to his arm surgery that he couldn’t be used that way.

I suspect Lopez’s time will be short as Foulke is due to come off the DL soon.

nope he's still up.

so gabbard AAA, lopez soon to be AAA, jvb soon to be AAA, wells and foulke soon to be back in the bigs.

did i get everyone?

At this point I'd almost rather keep Gabbard in the rotation and JVB in the bullpen than bring back those two cancers. When they come back, Wells need to keep his mouth shut, at least, till he has a few good outings, and Foulke needs to earn a few dollars of that huge f***ing contract he has, or retire.

He earned every single dollar of it in the 2004 post season.

he earned every dollar of his 2004 contract, but he hasn't earned a damn thing since. When you're making upwards of 7 million and you hurt your team more than you help it ... that's not exactly earning your money.

Wells has always ran his mouth. No one cares what he says.

How exactly is he a cancer?

He can leave with a clear conscience and the appreciation of Red Sox Nation. He left what he had on the field in those spectacular post-season appearances. You can't expect more than that from a guy. You can't blame him for deteriorating arthritic knees that have affected his performance and ultimately caused him to come up with a bum arm. If Foulke has anything left in his battered body, he'll put it out there for the team.

BTW: Why so negative on Foulke? Do you work for BK?

I actually admire Wells’ determination to get back on the mound. He could have easily called it quits a couple of months ago, but has quietly rehabbed himself back into the rotation. I heard an interview where he stated he plans to retire after this season and wants to go out “in a blaze of glory”, not on the DL He knows how badly the Sox need him this year and I applaud his efforts in getting back sooner that I had expected.

How do you know that no one cares? Questioning a coaching decisions makes you a cancer IMO, and thats what he did back in ST. I don't care how minor it was. A team has to be united under their coach, and accept his decisions as the right moves. Also if he's willing to say that his manager is wrong to the media, what do you think he's saying around the clubhouse? Don't you think a manager having to hear about how one of his players thought he was wrong, bothers him?

On top of that, having to hear moronic quotes about your team from a veteran can't make you feel good ... as a player or coach.

In closing, I won't be rooting against Wells on the field. I'll just be rooting for him to keep his mouth shut off it.

I agree. When he went home to San Diego after he got hit on the knee and he couldn't work out, I figured he was packing it in, and I couldn't blame him. Thee's not really a big financial upside for him in coming back. I guess he loves pitching and he wants to go out feeling good about his career.

You're getting me wrong. There will always be a special place in my heart for Foulke, and I'll never forget what he did for us that season, but it's this season now. Plus his actions since that WS haven't exactly given me a warm fuzzy feeling.

If Wells stays healthy until the end of the year and pitches reasonably effective, how good does a Schilling-Beckett-Wakefield-Lester-Wells rotation look for the stretch run? Absolutely outstanding. And figure Lester moves to the bullpen for the playoffs

I dont really like david wells, i mean the guy is either drunk, talking smack, or talking smack while drunk!

but pitching wise, the guy is decent and i will be rooting for him to go out good. I really do hope Boomer can go out good, and have his glory before he closes the book on his career.

I still haven't seen any backlash as result of Wells' comments. He's been this way his whole career.

I'm sure it bothers him, but a manager isn't more important than his team. He'll probably bring him into a closed room meeting and hammer it out one on one there.

Besides, Millar's comments in 2004 didn't stop the Red Sox from winning anything. Manny's antics in 2005 didn't stop the Red Sox from going to the playoffs.

Hey man I hope you're right. Trust me I'd love to see Wells come back and allow us to run away with this division the way we would have if we didn't have to forefit every 5th game.
