July 21, 2006 -- TORONTO - Alex Rodriguez laughed when a trade rumor that circulated through Wall Street yesterday was relayed to him.

"It doesn't make any difference," Rodriguez said of the rumor that had the Yankees third baseman going to the Phillies as part of a blockbuster trade for Bobby Abreu, Pat Burrell, Tom Gordon and David Bell, with the Yankees supposedly also sending Melky Cabrera and a player to be named. "I would veto it."

"I would veto it."

Does he like seeing the Yankees lose?

This trade would be amazing. It's probably just another rumor though. :(

Holy s***. I would absolutely cry if that deal was made. Bell would do better than whatever A-Rod left, and suddenly the Yankees get 2 of their COF positions absolutely solidified. That guy Gordon isn't bad either.

A-Rod, veto it. Please.

A-Rod needs to be sent to a West Coast team; that's the only place he could play without much pressure. I think it'd be a good fit for him too. San Diego would be a good fit for him....just like New York would be a good fit for Peavy. Just saying...:dunno:

Come on seriously why would Yankee fans cheer Arod? Because he's one of the best players in the game ... pffffffffffffffffffffffft. Why appreciate one of the best players you'll ever see ... when you can boo him ... and cheer the guy playing next to him who isn't half as good.

right on hammer

perhaps if jetsey were a true captain and leader he would offer the shortstop job to the best shortstop on the team??

move to 2nd or 3rd depending on where hes needed more??

maybe slap the s*** out of that whiny ********** joel sherman for ripping arod day in and out??

maybe stick mike lupica and his glasses in a trash can and piss on him??

some f***ing leadership is needed and has been since paul oneill retired

Well, perhaps if Jeter was a real captain he would stand up for his teammate with the media and tell the writers and the fans to get off Arod's back and let him play ball, but thank god Jeter isn't really a captain, huh?

as a lifelong borderline obsessive sox fan who would much rather get assraped by rosie odonell and oprah than see the yanks win the world series i get dumbfounded by this

arod is the best shortstop on this team

jetsey is a good ballplayer who dont have the range of arod but does have a good enough arm for 3rd

why not make the move??

is torre frightened to ask derek??

isnt derek a team guy??

im trying to be as objective as possible here folks

didnt schilling ask into the bullpen last season to make up for our lack of a closer??

39 year old legend, bad ankle, limping, struggling, cant get anyone out however he sees the teams need and says gimme the ball,i dont care about anything but the teams ultimate success...he didnt have to worry about his long term career, hes got his money and his success speaks for itself

jeter has money success and his legacy is intact

being the captain shouldnt he take it to joe and say

""here coach,im willing to move over so arod can play where he belongs""

would it matter??

who knows

but the effort and concession would speak volumes about teamwork, commraderie and the quest for the ultimate goal here which is the winning.

Wouldn't it true captain and teammate also speak up on behalf of ARod regarding his treatment by the fans?

Michael Kay seems to think that Torre or Captain Intangibles should say something.

Wasn't it Jeter who had Knoblauch's back when things were falling apart for him?

Wasn't it Jeter who made comments to the press to try and take some heat of Giambi a while back?

A captain...nay a true teammate...goes to bat for his compadres in order to help the team...Jeter's selectivity speaks volumes.

Ridiculous.

A-Rod has been playing third for more than two years now; last season he did a very good job over there. The trouble isn't with his position...it's all in his head; that's not going to be fixed by moving him to a position he hasn't played on a regular basis since 2003. And then you have to throw in the troubles that would come with moving Jeter to a position he's never played at before. If you're saying that would help the team, you're crazy. I can see why you people would be supporters of such a move though, you're Red Sox fans that like to see the Yankees lose.

And there's no point in Jeter coming to A-Rod's defense; there is no defense for how pathetic he has been this season. The fans and the media aren't going to back off because Jeter says something. A-Rod is the only person who can make that happen.

Because we're booing a player who has been playing at a AAA level, if that, for a long period of time? Give me a break.

As I recall, the Yankees didn't win the World Series last year (I think we can all remember how much A-Rod contributed to that with his performance against the Angels.) So last year was a failure. What A-Rod did last season means nothing.

The fans aren't there to root for A-Rod, they're there for the team...something A-Rod is hurting right now.

Arod is really Knoblauching the ball..

At a time when Big Steins ladies club needed him, hes fallen apart.

Too bad so sad..

They are done!!

The prima dona, Jeter hates ARod's guts.

thats it in a nutshell

jeter doesnt like arod

optimist??nice moniker

anyways

didnt arod lead the team in hrs and rbi and the league in game winning hits last seaon while your boy derek led baseball in final outs made??

how many gold gloves did arod win at short stop??

they gave jetsey 1 last year

anyone who knows the game knows the best shortstop on the yankees is playing 3rd base, very very badly i may add.

keep him right where he is

it aint hurtin boston to see him make 6 errors a week at 3rd

as the above guy said

jetseys silence is screaming volumes about his devotion to team baseball and his ability as a captain

he dont even have to move

all he needs to do is offerr
