Glad the AS Break is here for many reasons' date=' but another is we might be able to rest Wakefield until possibly the end of the Royals or the Mariners series.[/quote']

On Thursday they begin a stretch of 14 games in a row, so I dont think thats a possibility to give him that long of a rest. So far his next start will be game 4 vs the A's on Sunday

Well we now know who will take Jason Johnson's roster spot, Wily Mo Pena is set to return on Thursday. We will probably end up seeing Willie Harris DFAd/sent to minors for whom ever is starting the 5th game

Id rather see Seanez DFA'd for whoever we use for a 5th starter. I still think Harris can be useful in the right situation, and he's also a good clubhouse guy.

a healthy wells would be huge down the stretch

an inning eater who would at least keep us competetive as opposed to the scatine we've thrown in the 5 spot since the lenny dinardo experiment

i never really cared for wells but i do appreciate his efforts in trying to get back on the field this season

Despite Harris’ utility value I still think Seanez ranks a bit higher than him on the roster food chain. He came in the extra innings game and actually threw 2 scoreless innings after not working for almost 2 weeks. Both have obviously fallen out of favor with Tito with their respective diminished roles, but an arm in the pen can always be used for mop up, saving some of the other productive relievers.

And why just DFA Seanez? Despite his suckitude he could still be of some value in the trade market, given the very thin pool of pitching that’s currently out there.

Theo spent good money (albeit foolishly) on purchasing Johnson’s contract, so there’s gotta be some contending team that could use a Seanez.

I must say, I've started to see a bit of a turnaround with Tavarez. I thought Seanez would get it together, but I was wrong. Tavarez is actually the one I've been impressed with lately. 4 scoreless innings against the ChiSox in a big situation, props to him for holding down the fort when he needed to.

If Snyder starts today (Wednesday) for Lowell he’d be next available on Monday. Isn’t that when the Sox would need their 5th starter again?

Snyder is starting in Lowell just to stay on his pitching schedule. He will likely be brought up to face his old team on Monday.
s***! I'll be at that game. When I was in Fla. I got to see jason Johnson. I am sick of seeing these human forfeit pitchers. Theo do something...please!

So i went to redsox.com this morning while having my breakfast. I notice the headline Johnson shines in minor league outing, it deceived me however. He did get 15 groundball outs with an effective sinkerball. Heres his stats

7 innings, 10 Hits, 4 Runs, 0 Walks, 1 K

Now his sinkerball might have been effective to get aggressive young kids to roll over on top of them, but still they managed 10 hits off of him. Facing kids just out of high school & college is not a good gauge that there is hope

I believe 7 of the 10 hits were for extra bases. He will not get another start for the Red Sox. He would be lucky to get another chance anywhere in the major leagues again.

If the Sox feel that Johnson will never be effective and won‘t give him a chance to start, then why spend all of the time and effort to try to restore his pitching?

hows Snyder been in the minors ?

i definetly think he will be our # 5 starter come september.

clement will be one (imo theo should trade him to a team say the mets for some decent prospects)

Wells will retire and Johnson is done

well thats not too bad but it could be better

Edit: Just read in the paper - Snyder might be starting against the Royals

It looks like the JJ experiment continues to be a bust. I read his line from last night’s start in Pawtucket: 5.0 IP, 9H, 6R, 3BB. I’m still baffled by what Theo sees in this guy.
