Life. There are signs of life in the offense.

You mean not-late-inning-or-down-by-7-runs life? Yeah, I noticed that. What? 2 consecutive hits? Wow, I forgot they can do that.

Let's get a good start from Lester and put some runs up early.

It is still a feeble and close race I guess.
Gonzo is a better fielder, and he does have a tendency to get some hits in big spots, plus he has a little pop.

While that is entirely true, it does not mean the race is not feeble. What the Sox should have is a player who combines fielding and hitting like when Garciaparra was hitting .330 with 30 HR and 110 RBI while playing good D. It's a lot to ask, I know, but it would be ideal.

Instead we have a battle of slick fielding poor hitting SS.

I spent a lot of time today thinking about the retooling process, especially after the pitiful showing against the Twins.

You know what though? This is a pretty good team overall. They are in a rough patch right now, but there were times earlier in the season where I thought this team had much more potential than even the 04 team did. They can win close games, they can create runs MUCH better than in the past (though their performance with RISP doesn't necessarily back that at this point) AND they have a bad bullpen just like those teams did, but their defense is considerably better. I'm optimistic and I hope others are too.

Sorry for the innane baseball banter, rip one Papi!

I just think major league hitting must be so hard, and I can't imagine the foresight and hand-eye coordination needed to adjust to a slider, changeup, 4-seamer or 2-seamer, while also adjusting for the 1-2 mph added or subtracted by the smoothness of the pitcher's release.

I'd love to be able to pick his head about hitting for awhile.
