Seanez and Tavarez suck. Flip a coin an get rid of one of them. Hansen would be a huge upgrade over either one. IMO after Hansen gets some innings under his belt, he could be a go-to guy in late inning pressure situations -- 7th, 8th or 9th innings.

Wait, did you just support bringing up a talented prospect to replace a veteran?

 I'm just kidding. I totally agree with you. I'd much rather watch Hansen struggle a little bit and get better than watch Tavarez and Seanez suck it up.

Agree with almost everyone on this. Hansen and Van Buren sucking (which we dont know if they would untill they are up for more than 2 weeks), is more tolerable to watch than Tavarez and Seanez throwing beach balls.

Take out that game in NY and Van Buren's era was 1.23. Hansen hasn't got a chance really this year in the majors. I hope Delcarmen plays a bigger role for the team moving forward. Since May, Delcarmens ERA has been 3.60 and the 2 runs were because of Tavarez letting up a HR against Detroit

I don't think Hansen will struggle much. I think he is major league-ready. Even if Terry doesn't trust him in big spots, he is a much better 4th or 5th option than Tavarez or Seanez. Here's the bullpen that I'd like to see:

Papelbon -closer

Timlin- 8th inning

Foulke - 7th/8th inning

Riske- 6th/7th inning

Hansen- 6th/7th inning

MDC- 6th/7th

Tavarez- mopup

If Foulke or Riske falter, I could see Hansen and MDC moving up on the depth chart.

I doubt it will be Tavarez since he is the only one with a two year deal.

Salary owed (for cutting/releasing purposes like Embree last year)

Tavarez--6.7M (includes both years)

Seanez--2.1M

Riske--1.80M

Foulke--7.25M +1.5M buyout (8.75M total)

Timlin--3.50M

Hansen makes 1M/year and Delcarmen, Dinardo, Lester, Pauley, Alvarez, Papelbon, Van Buren, etc all make the minimum 326,000/year.

Tavarez got that 2 year deal because of his past accomplishments. When he is asked to start an inning and only pitch 1 inning, he has been great. When he is asked to mop up after Seanez and all of his walks/mistakes, then Tavarez does poorly. When he is asked to pitch more then 2 innings Tavarez struggles with that as well. He has had a long and successful career, I wouldn't be so hasty as to throw him away. I would be more inclined to say goodbye to Seanez first, then Foulke. Riske is the same as Tavarez, pretty much, he needs to start an inning clean. If you look at the last couple of years, if not beyond that, all of the relievers we have had, have done a terrible job coming into a game with inherited runners on base. I don't know why that is but last year we were one of the worst in all of baseball, in regards to inherited runners scoring. Even Timlin was pretty poor at shutting other teams down. I wonder if it's a MENTAL thing with the whole team?

Tavarez has alot of money coming to him and is also signed through 2007. He will be tough to get rid of without eating some money.

His situation seems very similar with that of Ramiro Mendoza when he was here...same type of pitcher, previous success, comes here for some money.......stinks up the joint

Remy was interviewed on WEEI today and he said that JVB is with the team right now on the road. Strong speculation that Foulke is headed for the DL.

Except Mendoza was a yankee spy paid by Steinbrenner to tank and dash Red Sox hopes. :(

Jsing, the Red Sox had not start worrying more about money than trying to win. The fact is a mistake was made signing Taverez to a two year contract and if he cannot be traded the team should cut its loses and let the guy go. Maybe some team needs him worse than we do and we can trade him and pick up a little of his salary. It is inevitable that a team that holds onto a poor performing player in order not to eat a contract usually regrets that decision and in the meantime it takes down the team and its fans with them.

Yankees Suck, if Taverez can pitch the way you say he can it would be wise to the Red Sox to know this, too, but apparently they don't, or they're too stubborn about it. First of all, I have no defense for Seanez. He has failed twice in Boston and he has to go. Julian could emerge as a good reliever if he is used as you suggest. I'm reminded by your post that you have a very accurate reading on when he has performed well. Now if we could only get a reliever who can come in the game with inherited runners and get them out

Yup, Foulke on the DL.

I think we all now agree Tavarez doesn't belong on this team

and to answer the question, How do you spell relief? well it certainly aint T-A-V-A-R-E-Z

Well guys, did you see what Taverez did tonight? Hit a batter, gave up a double and a grand slam homer and turned a 2-1 lead into a 5-2 loss. I do not want to hear of anyone of you trying to defend this useless bastard. He has to go and go fast. He must not be around any longer. He and Seanez and albatrosses around our necks and unless Theo gets rid of these two bums you can bet that Francona will continue to use them over and over again. He is just too wedded to "experience" even if those pitchers can't do the job. Time to give those young arms a break.

I wrote this in a game thread over the weekend, but it's worth repeating. There is usually one situation in every game when a lefty reliever will help a team. I don't understand how they could let Myers go with no other lefty option. I doubt DiNardo is the answer, but I would have rather seen him face Kubel. Somewhere, they've got to find a lefthanded reliever. I spell relief L-E-F-T-Y.

Beck, Yezsir, and mosox, I think it is now pretty evident in Red Sox Nation that neither Taverez or Seanez, the EZ Brothers as they are known on Uponthemonster, can't do it and should be replaced as key relievers. The problem is Taverez (freddy krueger) has a two year contract and is owed 6.7 million and I just don't think the Red Sox will eat that contract no matter how much we fans howl. I really think Theo is willing to take us and the team down with him as he and Francona try to prove a point that these two guys are going to be all right in the end. They will not. As for you mosox, you are right on both counts---we need a lefty reliever, and DiNardo is most definately NOT the answer.

Isn't this the guy who couldn't finish off the Red Sox last October in the Divisional Series? You think this guy is going to be an improvement?

Javier Lopez is a relief pitcher who has appeared with Colorado & Arizona. For the White Sox, he's just pitched in their Triple A system. You have your names mixed up

What do you mean by "finish off"? If you're talking about walking the bases loaded...that was Damaso Marte, he resides in Pittsburgh now.
